In all seriousness, when you mention the Inquisition, the first thing that comes to the mind of most people are interrogations and tortures.
If we play as the Inquisitor, performing certain missions in a manner that befits the role; such as interrogation and, optionally, torture; would be more interesting than just killing hordes of parachuting foes like a common grunt.
Similarly, if the Inquisition is the enemy, being on the other side of the torture rack should also be possible.

I'm glad that atleast two posters before me know that torture isn't reliable, if you get the chance to toture multiple people I hope a couple are delirious from pain and say what they think you want to hear. The PC then acts on that faulty information and gets many people killed, then there is also the side to it that if they are serving an evil god or fade spirit they most likely wont fear your torture because they know that the "big bad guy" will do far worse to his soul for an enternity.

What do you mean torture isn't reliable?

It's main purpose is to inflict pain.
Not to get answers out of people.

There are plenty of effective technics to do so.
It's an evil thing to do, but if you're that way inclined, there are many effective means of making people suffer.
In that respect, torture is very reliable.

Real life torture = revolting, evil, distusting and horrible.
Fictional torture = hell yeah! Bring it on!

Wrong torture was an accepted method of information gathering until people started questioning if it was effective and not just a waste of time and resources.

These would both be a good start for conversational challenges.

Also, I'll mention the conversation with Hass was awesome!  I don't know if the other convos in the game did it, but he could actually react differently on conversations even if you chose the same options forcing you to rethink your approach.

I highly doubt Bioware will make a game with waterboarding.

Hell, there isn't even racial slang in their games.

The real issue is to make sure you're torturing someone they care about,
and not them.  And to start off by asking them questions that you
already know to see how honest they may be.  Kinda KOTOR style as well
as many other media.

The first rule as an inquister is to remember this...

there is no such thing as innocence only degrees of guilt.

Bioware does have a history of "slap this guy around a little to get an answer out of him" scenes.

Well, humans and elves trade a lot of racial slurs. Does fictional racism count?

It's a strange standard. DAO was a game where you could slit the throat of a child after punching his mother out and support slavery. But torture that goes beyond a few slaps is too "extreme"?

Torture is perfectly viable for information gathering as long as you verify the information you are told through other sources, just like how you'd verify any other information you get from interrogations. You hold back details you already know, so that the suspect doesn't know that you know, and make sure whatever they tell you lines up with those details before trusting it.

That said, being an inquisitor doesn't necessarily mean you are gonna torture people. I think the worst we'll see is slapping them around like in that DA2 clip or the one guy in ME2 during Thane's loyalty mission. Those are the Bioware version of Jack Bauer's tactics.

I wonder what is wrong with certain people these days. In DA2 there was people who wanted the possibillity to have an incestiously relationship between the protagonist and his/her sister. Now there's those who wants a torture minigame.

But fullblown sex, that's going to offend the cencors. Get a grip. people!
