Since the game is called
Inquisitor, I think the protagonist should be like
Superior Glotka from the books of Joe Abercrombie:
The First Law!
A former torture victim himself, twisted and bent, disabled and hating the world. Unable to pursue a romantic interest even if he would, and bitter and resentful about it.
Or maybe like the character
Matthew Hopkins, portrayed in the old British horrorflick
Witchfinder General. Evil, perverted, cruel and utterly without remorse. Not interested in romance either.
Or maybe just like an inquisitor in the 16th - 17th century. Controlled by a power-hungry fanatical institution, and with a vow of celibacy to guide him.
Think of all the interesting roleplay opportunities there would be in any of these scenarios... Of course, there'd be no dating. Imagine that. No romance.... the horror!
I am sorry, but really, I don't think CRPG romance is very interesting. Of course, if well done, it can be an integral part of the plot-line. But usually, it isn't. So I'd rather see less than more, because it takes up budget, energy and space, that usually would be better off being used for something else.
