It's to avoid romancing characters. Like female Wardens accidentally finding themselves in a romance with Leliana just because they consoled her for killing Marjalone..

.

But that sort of thing happens all the time when two hot girls are consoling each other.  Doesn't it?Image IPB

I love this idea... it would add more of a necessity to actually listen and learn about the person you are romancing. Making your relationship feel more organic.

No need to fix the romance "I win" button, because it isn't broken.

I like any idea that makes it a bit more of a challenge, romance has generally gotten WAY too easy. At least with the Isabella romance there was some challenge involved, but with Merrill there was zip, and going back to DAO those romances weren't that tough either. No aspect of the game should be so insanely easy that you just see the little icon, click that one, and its auto-win every single time. Maybe if there's like, three different heart icon options, with a wide variety of good or bad results depending on which one you pick, that could work, but if theres just one heart icon for each conversation, and if you click that each time, after 3 or 4 conversations you're automaticly in a relationship with that person, that's just way too easy. Way too easy isn't rewarding, challenging is rewarding, it doesn't have to be insanely hard or anything, but I definitely like the idea of multiple heart options, some working positively and some negatively. Makes things much more interesting.

Id like to be able to WORK for a romance. Not just keep choosing the heart icon which makes the LI automatically interested in you.
Maybe the character doesn't like you in that way and you have to prove you care about them and not flirt with anyone else so that they may eventually develop a crush on you.

I really don't want to go back to BG2 style romances, where one wrong click means it's over.

Bioware, make a game without a single romance

At least as far as I remember, Shattered Steel and MDK2 never had romance in them.

I love this idea... it would add more of a necessity to actually listen and learn about the person you are romancing. Making your relationship feel more organic.

That sounds about right. If I'm just waiting to press a love button at the end of a romance section, that doesn't bring great significance to the dialogue beforehand.

Even though DAO doesn't have the heart icons, there are multiple choices in the dialogue which allows you to express your interest in your LI.

Ah yes. DAO. An interesting game where straight femWarden may suddenly find out that hair talks and being nice may have....some interesting outcomes..

Yes, I know IRL we don't tusually have floating Icons that tell us which replic may lead to romance. But it's a game. And you are supposed to control your character, which means - understanding what answer you pick. So - it's either Icon or [flirt] tag. Looks silly by "I love you" replic, but we all know how...DIFFERENT sometimes short and full replics look right?

And for those who enjoy surprizes - just make those togglable.
