ME3 is the game that finally perfected the controls for the dialogue wheel. At least on consoles, since I'm not sure how different (if any) these wheels may work on PC.

My main issue is that in wanting to keep the dialogue flow, I often find myself wanting to look through my dialogue options while the NPC's final line is still being delivered. That way there are no awkward pauses in conversation. While it's obviously not viable in every conversation, it's nice to have the option for the ones where it is.

Now onto why the ME3 dialogue wheel controls are the best out of all four dialogue wheel'd games.

A/Cross called up the wheel if it hadn't popped up yet, X/Square skipped the line being said, and there was no default selection on the wheel. ME1&2 got the two first parts right which allowed you to force up the wheel early without skipping any lines. But since one of the replies was highlighted by default, there was the risk you'd try to force up the wheel just when the wheel appeared on its own, which made you select a response before you even got a chance to read them.

DA2 fixed that issue by not highlighting any response when the wheel came on screen, but DA2 changed the controls where A/Cross did not bring up the wheel prematurely. Instead, that was done with X/Square, which I never dared to input since that's the same button that skips dialogue. If there was another line before I would get to reply I would skip the current line.

ME3 has no default option (the DA2 pro) and the controls are standard ME controls, meaning no issue of accidental dialogue skipping. It leads to a best of both worlds solution where the controls are simply perfect =)
