I'd rather have the weapons disappear than have them floating.
if sheathing does not work, i would be ok with that (it happened in a lot of games and - and most others - should be used to it by now) but if it can be done, i would love sheathed weapons (and less anime-like stuff, too - because: if someone does pay attention to all the weapon-styles we had on earth already, there is enough stuff, without having anime-style blades/axes etc. wich are 2 times (or more) the size of the PC and look like they weigh as much as an aircraft-carrier...but the PC (or NPC-characters) wield them like they are made of lightweight stuffs...*shakes his head and says: and this is why i hate lots of anime stuff* note: i do not hate anime style drawings, i just draw the line when they get over the topp with being unrealistic (gravity defying hair, uber mega large weapons and such)!)
so, yes, agreed!

I think people don't like the floating weapons because it's something that's out of place, and it's something they can see.
If, like NWN, weapons simply disappeared when not drawn, that might draw less ire. I'd be content not to see weapons while sheathed.
It isn't just that we can see it, it is that it is shoved n our faces so much because of the over the should view.Plus, somethings that can't be sheathed really (staves) are also stuck back there.
In the end I'd expect with a better engine this shouldn't be an issue.

Less anime looking weapon and sheated stuff? I approve.
Less anime? Yes. I get wanting to have a distinct look but drive that through architecture, art, clothing...anything. Weapons are functional tools. While swords have different looks around the world they all have one thing in common - they look like thwey'd work to do what they are desgined to do. Too many of the DA* weapons look like they are non-functional at their (simple) task.

I did start it. It dropped off the front page without comment.LPPrince wrote...
You know Sylvius, I think that subject warrants its own thread, if you want to start it. I'd contribute.

I don't see how the engine makes any difference. This isn't a rendering problem; it's an animation problem.Sidney wrote...

If a particular unique or unusual model doesn't fit reasonably within a sheathe, it can be hung from a loop or harness. The loops can also be used for 1-handed axes, maces, and 2-handed weapons on the back.
Personally, I think Dragon's Dogma handles the weapon placement, sheathes and quivers reasonably well, it may be worth taking a look at.
My brother and I have been playing RPG's together for 15 years, however he was a little young to play BG and some of Bioware's earlier works. I have found it impossible to convince him to play DA up to this point, and it's because he took one look at the floating weapons and said, "I just want a little realism." That's a quote. So it does matter to some people, and no amount of great story or terrific characters is going to change that apparently.
I don't consider this issue a deal-breaker of course, however, when you're talking about an immersive and finished product, this is one of those things that add to the high quality of that product.

Would it bother people all that much if some of the weirder swords didn't look like they'd fit their sheathes?
ME1 could conveniently fold up it's weapons into convenient sizes. So the weapons fit on the back where there's no real issue of clipping because it doesn't flex. Whereas DA weapons are too big to do that, so you end up with either floating or clipping. And as long as you're not looking from the side, floating is less obvious than clipping.
The problem is exactly that DA weapons are too frickin big.
And also that carrying swords on your back is a pretty stupid idea to begin with.

There is a really bad RPG out there called Bound By The Flame(which I admittedly got to starve off the boringness of Summer bad idea) Despite the fact that it has terrible game design shonky fighting mechanics laughable voice acting it does 1 thing right.
Your protagonist has a sheath which they put their rather useless 2-handed blade in when not in combat now if a game that so desperately wants to be DAO's and the Witchers Lovechild to the point it begins stalking them can do this then there is no reason why Bioware with all of their Knowledge and Hoard of Game design Holocrons could do the same and better too.
I mean it;s clear we're tired of big 2 handed weapon or staff just floating there

I'm happy that longswords at least are pulled from the hip instead of being pulled from the back this time around. I would love sheathes for longswords, greatswords, daggers and staves.

LOL .. I remember back in the day . When Age of Conan was just released. I played has a Herald of Xotli . There was a bug that would make my two handed sword float a lil farther each time I used a certain ability.
At some point my sword would be floating 20 ft away from my back. I was a fervant complainer about this bug lol. Of course when Age of Conan was released. The game was riddled with bug and a sword floating 10 ft from my back was not their most concerning bug to conquer.
So for the whole month I played. I had to endure my stupid floating sword.
me : Wait I need to relog !
Guildy : Why ?
Me : Because my STUPID FLOATING SWORD ****** ME OFF !
Guildy : LoL

Wow, you're right: http://media.xboxliv...es/2962/034.jpg
I didn't know about the longswords.
Well, this is a major improvement, really. And one less thing to mod!
