Random Encounters on The World Map

Now imagine random encounters returning for DA3. Not only do they change as the plot progresses but they change based on your actions (akin to Baldur's Gate and the reputation system within that). Say you anger a certain someone, they could randomly attack you one day when you're exploring the world map.
These encounters need to be brought back for DA3 especially since it sounds like the world map is returning.

If the map is anything like DA2's map then that will basically be saying "no" to random encounters unless they're part of a quest in which case they won't really be random.

Which isn't to say they can't be done well, just don't stick a bunch of mooks in my way and tell me I'm supposed to enjoy myself.
Some of the encounters in DAO were cool, most were not.

If I have the choice between encounters on the worldmap or delivering some bone that I found in a cave to get some exp. I would certainly go for the first one. FedEx quests are a lot more boring and tiresome.

Sometimes they were a pain in the butt, but things like the Superman easter egg or meeting a traveling merchant randomly on the road wouldn't be bad, if they were mixed in. Any random battles can feel tedious if there are too many.
...
I finally understand that scene.
Superman. huh. Interesting. I see now.

1) Story significant (Zevran encounter, Lelliana getting ambushed by assasins etc.)
2) Are unique (like the one overlooking the bandit camp and you can listen in or ambush them or 'sneak' by them)
Random encounters are not good when they exist just to have you fight random people for no reason other than to give you XP/Money/Loot. And don't get me started on the wolf ambush one where your party is surrounded by foot traps. That one just boggles the mind.

Basically sums up my feelings.

If the encounter is challenging, then it should be a real encounter, with good loot, some characters, and a little story. If the encounter has no challenge, no good loot, and no story, it should not occur.
Best example of a bad encounter from DAO: The bear and six wolves. Normally, I would run my Warden toward the gate and let my companions kill the monsters. By the time I got to the gate, the encounter was done. That was an absolute waste of time. There was no value to the encounter beyond 12XP. Garbage encounter.
Good encounter... The little trial with the fire spirits, the two people finding the meteorite that you make starfang from... Those are good. They have value.

Let's say Adventuring Party A leaves Blue Castle on Day 1 and travels overland on foot to the Dungeon of Horrors 17 days away. Adventuring Party B leaves Green Castle on Day 7 and travels tothe same dungeon and arrives 6 days later. Given that the lands between the castles and the dungeon are non-descript and no plot-related villains are involved, which party has more random encounters?
Answer: Neither! Both adventuring parties have exactly one random encounter no matter how far they travel. Each party has one (and only one) encounter because random encounters are tedious and a waste of everyone's valuable time.

I just want to buy some elfroot at the tower then go back to Denerim to make potions to sell. But no, the game forces me to play through 2 random events, some of which are actually hard, just to get where I want to go.
