No. It's a different type of mace.
That is a flail, as shown by the chain connecting the head of the weapon to the handle (hilt?).
A morning star can technically be either a flail or a mace, but in regards to my earlier post, I am correct.
*And I did this without looking at Allan's post.
Flail, heavy fail, morning star? Who cares? Different types of maces then.
Christ!
I didn't expect the spanish inquistion!
Actually, they aren't different types of maces. A mace is a mace is a mace, but a flail is not a mace.
Can't we all just agree that we want a variety of blunt weapons and be done with the mace/flail discussion?

Wait for it, wait for it....
I think they took the bus this time.
Too bad.
OT:
Dragon Age 3 needs at least a few new weapon types. Even if the complete list I wrote in the OP don't make it in I'll be happy so long as we get crossbows, two handed swords and a polearm.
(Speaking of which. Varric had the only crossbow in DA2)

They were there.
Hopefully this is one of the things slated for improvement.
Though the first priority should be to make it so that Shale can crush the heads of normal-sized humanoid models between her fists. *squish*

Tomahawks, a tomahawk/hatchet weapon tree, more of a spinning, arcing type movement with very quick strikes, high damage and high/medium armor piercing.
Main and gauche, or the classic Rapier and Dagger kit, for a parrying, swift striking style, high on armor piercing and critical chance.
Throwing Knives, for a self adapting short ranged attack that flows directly into a hand to hand style with high attack bonus and requiring and improving high dexterity and defense. It shouldn't have range equivalent to bows like Tallis' version, but should be a short range, highly mobile but out of arm's reach type of adaptable defensive style.
Non mage Blunt Staff, more of a fighting monk type thing, like a mace with greater range and higher speed, but less armor penetration, high defense.
Spear, direct stabbing attack at distance, with very high armor piercing and decent critical chance, with defensive abilities that temporarily improve defense at penalty of reduced attack and damage by changing the stance to a spinning backstep type maneuver.
Replace Greatsword with specific Claymore, Zweihander styles, one more offensive and deliberate, the other for more AoE and lower attack to-hit, with realistic animation sets unique to them.
Duel Wield Shortswords, or Shortsword and Axe (or offhand hatchet, tomahawk), each with their own basic animation sets and speed modifier, a slower but more defensive alternative to dual daggers, with less armor piercing and critical, but more basic damage.
Mace and Flail, why not both?, with their own animation sets, obviously very high armor pierce, high damage, slower speed, and low critical.
That's good for now, love to see any and/or all of them, either with the inquisitor or a companion or whatever.

Swords could be extremely varied. You had swords made for cutting like sabers, swords made specifically for thrusting, like an Estoc, and many other types for different types of fighting. Yet in most games a sword is just treated the same as every other sword.

I'd also like to see the different kinds of mace head have different stats. Spiked maces (fixed morning stars) could do more damage against flesh, flanged maces could have higher armor piercing, ball maces could amplify knock-down or stun type effects, etc.
Also also, single-edged, curved swords being distinct from straight swords with heavy blades being distinct from straight swords with light blades. The former would do more damage v flesh (or more crit damage or whatever), the latter would have more armor piercing, and the middle variety would have the raw damage output.
Plus bows, with Eurpoean-style self bows being the baseline, and a variety of composite bow styles having different range/armor piercing/rate of fire/damage values depending on the type (Persian-style bows would have higher range and ap than standard bows, and a much higher rof, while Roman-style bows would have a much higher range and ap with a lower rate of fire, etc.). Longbows would be like an upgraded self bow with slightly lower rof and much higher range and ap values.

I'd also like to see more siege weaponry, including siege towers and the use of mounted calvary.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a shield spike or two. Maybe a talent for warriors who sword and board to increase their overall damage.
