People want more variety of weapons but at the same time demand sheathes which inevitably limits the shape of the blade.

it doesn't actually. Sheaths don't vary in shape much, Width and length is about it as typically only bladed weapons were sheathed. So even fanciful blades would have rather plain scabbards (well decorated though).

Mases, spears, polearms, hammers, etc typically were carried with out any protective covering.

I want daggers that are actually dagger sized and not short sword sized. And put them on mah hips or something, you do not put daggers on your back. I think. Unless they're concealed throwing knives. OOOOOOOh. We should have concealed throwing knives! Also quarterstaffs. And a Ashandarei. Ah. Wheel of Time how I miss thee.

Yeah the size of "daggers" in DA are ridiculous. Technically they should be called short-swords (because that's what they really are) and some real daggers should be introduced (like the murder knife) which can be used in combat. Dragon's Dogma had daggers as a weapon (although slightly over-sized they still weren't unrealistic daggers like the ones in DA) which attached to the character's hips and they functioned perfectly and as expected.

(Wonders if this thread should be turned into a thread about the design of weapons?)

Daggers (fighting daggers) are nearly short sword in size. The knives we consider weapons today would have been laughed at in scorn back in the day,.

fighting daggers were roughly 12~14 inches of blade. what many of us consider short swords in today's viewpoint.
Short swords tended to be ~28 inches. (about 20 inches of blade).
Long swords a bit longer (30 ~40 inches), and some rapiers reach 42+ inches (about 36 inches of blade)

For example a Spatha (roman/viking sword) was between 30 and 39 inches.
The Gladius (roman infantry sword ) was about 28 inches with ~19.5 inches of blade.

So dagger size in DA is only a bit to large.

Given that the Anime style of weapons are almost always oversized.......

Ashendarei is really nothing more than a naginato. Yes it would be cool to see a variety of polearm weapons.

Definitely more weapon variety would be great.

More light-weapons, like daggers(DA has shortswords), handaxes, and small blunt weapon.

Rapiers(One-handed)

Polearms(Two-handed)

Most of us do. Dual-wielding Warrior was amazing in DAO.

Yeah. Dual-wielding warrior needs to be brought back and the rogue needs this ability too. It allows for more class builds.

Flemish ''Goedendag'' (Spiked staff), my favorite polearm. With this simple weapon the Flemish town militia beat the invading heavily armored French knights in the battle battle of the Golden Spurs.
The weapon is a hybrid, it can be used as one or two handed club/staff against heavily armored foes but it can also be used as spear. Talk about versatility.

Pollaxes not being in any DA-game? Well, okay. Halberds not in any either? I suppose I can take that. No spears? Now this is the breaking point for me. THE most common weapon used by humanity god knows for how many thousands of years is not in? What the hell BioWare?! Okay, so you had that spear mage staff in DA2, but none for warrior? It's just silly that there were no spears in any of the DA games so far.

DA3 should have atleast halberds and spears, but I have absolutely no faith in BioWare implementing this particular thing.

I thought the axe was the most common.

Make daggers actually the size of daggers and then add actual short swords.

Wouldn't an actual knife be kinda useless against a sword?

Since when has Dragon Age ever attempted to have truly realistic combat? DAO's was believable, DA2's was ridiculous.

Daggers against Swords will work in a fantasy setting. Its a game, thats just how they are.

Tell that to Garrett (no not default male Hawke, we're talking about the legend from the Thief series here) or any thief you can think of who uses a knife. The rogue class in DA2 was meant to be a class that isn't really meant to stand up to warriors alone (although it can obviously just like a mage could run in and melee) and is supposed to function with the rest of the team, providing disturbances and flanking/backstabbing the enemy. Realistic sized daggers would still work here.

I want a rose to be my weapon of choice.

Besides that, sure. I'll take some fist weapons, if I'm a berserker I really want to punch people in the face. Gotta get that blood on my hands, for reals this time.

I really missed crossbows in DA2 maybe they will be back in DA3

See this I agree with, and I can see Crossbows becoming the warriors long range weapon of choice, presuming that equipment is not class restricted this time around.

You can also give a skill tree to throwing knives, since we did see Tallis use them in combat during Mark of the Assassin. Would make it more distinct I believe.

Spears would make a good choice as well for a weapon too, can be like a more defensive version of a two-handed sword. Other than that, no need for crazy weapons in the end.

I think you missed DA2 Legacy weapons for hawke, DA2 weapons DLC#2.. This.. weapons were so.. bad meh, when I play legacy I switch weapons 99% of the time because they are really UGLY and no I didn't buy DA2 weapon DLC#2, I have enough Ugly with Legacy weapons.

My point is,  players had post many pictures of weapons and armors but what do we get? Legacy type of weapons and DA2 weapon DLC#2.
