Companions now are getting ridiculous. First Legion, the EDI, then Javik, now the most evil thing, darkspawn as a teammate. Seriously this is just plain dumb.

Hey now. At least we aren't asking for an Elder God/Abomination Dragon.

Stupid idea. Creature spreading the blight as a companion? Right.

... Except we already have friendly dark spawn in the lore.  It isn't much of a stretch.

It is, actually. One has to be insane to keep a darkspawn as a companion simply because (and it has been mentioned here quite a bit) IT SPREADS TAINT. And that makes your other companions die, which undermines the overall usefulness of your party. The intentions and good nature of your darkspawn 'friend' hardly matter at that point.

If it taints them.

there is no guarentee. I mean, we went through two whole games of non-grey wardens fighting darkspawn and having blood spewed on them  in gallons. It becomes a game mechanic thing to progress a story; basically, the Darkspawn won't taint your companions on purpose, and if it does come up it becomes an aspect of the story instead of mechanics.

So it making sense or not is irrelevent to the story, if there is a darkspawn character who is in the party, then the reason has to fit the story or else it won't make sense at all.

Javik is just an extra.

and Legion and EDI were brought about to bring the perspective of the unknown to you. What is more unique than making companions out of former enemies? Sarvorek became on in Baldurs Gate II as an example, and it also happened in Jade Empire...

Diversity in companions is always a good thing, so if they do have a darkspawn as a companion, it will be just like Justice and Shale; they are unique enough to be put into the mix and its not just due to them being different from everyone else.

I thought you had to actually ingest Darkspawn blood (or flesh) to get The Taint. I was under the impression that just hanging around with Darkspawn would not infect your taint.

Ingest or be infected through open wounds I believe the reason was.

Considering that the original plan in Origins was to have everyone contract the taint over time and forced to become gray wardens at one point, im kind of glad they changed that and kept it down to two people who can actually stop the blight, instead of 7, a golem and a dog.

Not really, no. The Taint can be transmitted throught the prolonged exposure to the darkspawn. Blood injestion and/or wounds are not necessary. Do you remember The Messenger from The Awakening expansion: the friendly darkspawn type? Well, if you let him live he becomes a local vigilante, but some of the people he helps become tainted - it is in his epilogue. And need i remind you what happens to your sibling during the Deep Roads expedition in DA II?

Sure, the writers chose to ignore the issue in the DA:O, but that does not mean the issue is non existent. That was one of the moments that required suspension of belief to be tolerated. This does not change the fact that mere presense of darkspawn in close vicinity is enough to spread the Taint and turn the person into a ghoul - to keep one in your headquarters would be... unwise.

Did Carver ingest any blood in the Deeproads?

But as I said, then that becomes a story issue that can be resolved the same way they did it in Origins. Take the Messenger as an example again. If he becomes that vigilante, we get isolated incidents of the taint. and we do know that ghouls either die because of the taint, or seek out the darkspawn and go mad over time. So yes, it is a risk that may or may not make sense, but that is dependent on how it is handled in the story.

I am not saying it doesn't make sense either, I am just saying it is possible and it depends on how it is handled via the storyline.

Yes, that is a possibility. It just strikes me as a very unsound decision that borders on a lore-breaking one, that's it. Sure, I would hate to see all of my companions from DA:O become zombies, so I acept the decision to igonre the threat of contamination. The difference is that the nature of that conflict required constant exposure to the darkspawn - they were the primary antagonists. Inquisition seemingly does not have the same problem and the desire to willingly open your party for being tainted without the real need for it just strikes me as bizzare. The game might ignore it, but the players won't. it is just another thing to pull you from the experience that really does not have to be there.

Either way, I would LOVE to see the justification for this companion wihin the story if this ever happens.

Maybe the Messenger from Awakening. He seemed like a good sort. He wears full body armor so just give him a helmet/mask.

This character would be the perfect choice IF one is included. If you let him live, he becomes a roving hero helping people in need -- but he stil spreads the plague

There are safeguards.  Maric uses one in The Calling.  Point being it isn't an insurmountable issue.  (Though, to be sure, we should have a Zevran-style opportunity to execute them upon meeting them)

I hate 'gimmicky' companions. I'd much prefer companions just be regular (combat capable) people.

No abominations, no lyrium infused super elves, no speshul last of their race things. Just regular warriors.

Would you rather we kept getting human and ''Normal'' companions.
No this is ficiton they can make anything they choose. And by the way.  Legion, Edi and Javik turned out to be some of the most well writen and fun characters in Mass Effect.

I have stated many times that I would like a disciple for a companion. I think there could be some work around to keep members of your camp from catching the blight, some magic protection spell or something.

Personally I'd rather not. If such a companion were optional, I'd just ignore any quest to pick him up. They've been portrayed throughout the series as monsters, even the 'awakened' ones. If enough people ask, and they can logically implement something (sort of like the messenger in Awakenings maybe) it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but neither would I want a creature so poisonous to life on Thedas in my company. I woudn't bother pick him up and utilize him.

And if there were some 'magical' protection for your party members, that wouldn't help every NPC the protagonist encounters in the game around the creature.
