Do we want Loghain in DA3? (If he lived of course)

I liked his post-landsmeet characterization. By Awakening, it looked like he was doing pretty well. The taint takes about 30 years if I remember right, so if he's already in Orlais, I'd like to see him again.

Loghain was, if I remember right, in his late 40's/early 50's during the time of DA:O.  So, by the end of DA2, he's late 50's/early 60's.  That's if he lived another 10 years.  Give it a few years before DA3 starts, he's early-late 60's.

Might well be dead anyway, or succumbing to the taint quicker.

Personally, spending effort on ANY character who could have been killed in a prior game is a waste, IMO, since that character won't appear in all games.  I view it as time that could have been spent on characters that will ALWAYS appear.

Just my opinion there.

I have no problem with him coming back (although he is dead in all my playthroughs), but it's not like he can do all that much. He's a Grey Warden now. They're neutral. Only way he could DIRECTLY get involved is if the Wardens were attacked, and the Templars aren't stupid enough to do that.

Although, in an indirect manner, I wouldn't be surprised if he popped up as someone willing to help the Inquisitor if he somehow thought it would help Ferelden gain some land from Orlais. So sorta like a questgiver or something

Abominations and demons however are stupid enough to attack the Grey Wardens. I expect we'll be seeing some scenes where cities/villages are invaded by demons and Loghain could help fight them off.

Well yes, obviously. The Qunari were also stupid enough to attack the Grey Wardens when they were in Kirkwall as well, didn't mean they got involved in the conflict. Which is basically what I'm getting at. Loghain, as a Grey Warden isn't going to get involved in anything like a Mage/Templar conflict or a civil war in Orlais DIRECTLY because that would risk the Wardens neutrality. Indirectly, as I've already said, he might give out some advice or tidbits to the PC, maybe a quest or two, but not much else.

His job is to fight Darkspawn now. If someone swings a punch at him, obviously he'll fight back, I just don't expect that to happen

In a thread I read, David Gaider wrote if Loghain was to be in it would probably be "Hi, I'm Loghain" cameo. Nothing really major.

I don't think the Wardens would refuse to fight abominations and demons if they were really posing a general threat. Demons and Abominations are really a threat that goes beyond politics just like the Darkspawn are, and letting the world get eaten because they're the wrong type of monster would be stupid.

Qunari are different. We might need the Qunari's help come next Blight.  Same with Mages and Templars.

"Lord Inquisitor, Orlais is invading Ferelden"
Loghain enters the room and says:
"I TOLD YOU SO"

And leaves to become a drunk wanderer.

I hate the character, but he would be a good conflict filler.they could totally add him to the story or least part of act II

If true, that wouldn't really be surprising, looking at how incredibly forced and just for sake of having them DA2's cameos felt.

Makes me wonder how they would fare were a new blight to begin in Seheron.

I think they'd absolutely slaughter the entire horde but they'd still need a grey warden to beat the archdemon...

That would be hilarious. But since Orlais is embroiled in civil war that's sort've unlikely.

Pff, that would be Alistair. Loghain would go straight to kick their ass again.

On the other hand, Qunari become ogres. The darkspawn under Qunari lands likely are mostly ogres(which makes their horde far more formidable then the hurlock/genlock one in Fereldan. Also, once they capture a few Qunari females, they can start popping out more Ogres with Broodmothers.

Yeah, the DAO character cameos in DA2 felt super busch league.

If Loghain comes back, it should be as an important plot character, and it would make sense regarding the Orlesian plot.

If he's dead in someone's save, have a new character replace him. Doesn't have to do all the things he would do(making Loghain nothing more than a glorified skin), but it would allow characters who kept Loghain alive to have a good consequence for that DAO choice.

All of you Loghain haters don't understand the great Hero of River Dane. I'm half tempted to post my defense of him from the Loghain thread in the DAO section....

Actually, he said that's the type of thing he wanted to avoid IIRC, going forward.

Yeah, that's what I recall as well.

Mr. Gaider basically he said that he would bring a character back if it would do them justice and if the story was improved by their reappearance, but if they were brought back just for the sake of being brought back, he'd rather omit them entirely.

But with DA3 involving Orlais and I believe Fereldan as well, Mr. Mac Tir SHOULD come back in full force.

He was one of the best characters in DA, definitely in the top five(in my opinion).

Loghain was awesome, and I'd like to see more of him.

But please, only put him in if it fits. No incredibly out-of-place cameos.

"A Warrior, a Mage, and a Rogue walk into a bar.

'Hi, I'm Loghain' a man at the bar says.

'Hello' the three men say back.

...was I telling a joke?"

I've formed my own opinion, thank you very much, and I've read lengthy posts and defenses of his character.  They failed to sway my estimation of what he turned into and that he's better off in the grave.

Agreed, the good and the bad of him, it all combined to make one classic character. There are definitely ways for his return to make sense in DA3, perhaps some Grey Warden Commander role that is typically filled by a new NPC could be instead feature Loghain with all the extra detail such a change would provide (but without an extensive re-write of the role itself).

You make some good points about him being alive at the time of DAI, but if he is dead then I'm sure that willy mage could preform some kinda of dark ritual on the "bones" logain to bring the old badass back at his prime. That way it could fit in to most of the storylines.
But here's hoping.

If King Maric is alive in DA3 then it would be interesting to see Loghain find out Maric is still alive.

Maybe reference him if he's alive but not see him directly
