As long as hes not a romanceable char, im ok with having him along
I would LOL so hard if that happened.
And then my Inquisitor would totally be all, "We'll bang, okay?"
But seriously, I would probably spontaneously combust with fangirlish glee if he makes a cameo. UUUNNNNFFFF

I won't be surprised if Maric appears in DA3. If he does, we NEED to see Loghain and his reaction to it.
That could be one of Loghain's defining moments realising his long-dead friend isn't lond-dead after all.

This gets my approval.

But I don't think he's all bad. I do have a playthrough where he lived, so I wouldn't mind him appearing again.

That said, I'd be surprised to see him at all. Shame really. I'd be thrilled if this were otherwise.

I liked his post-landsmeet characterization. By Awakening, it looked like he was doing pretty well. The taint takes about 30 years if I remember right, so if he's already in Orlais, I'd like to see him again.
I think whether the taint takes 30 years depends on the age of the Warden when they take it into themselves. Alistair didn't say that all Wardens get 30 years, he's talking to a young Warden around his own age and tells them they've got 30 years to live, give or take. He goes on to say that the Wardens he knew were in their 40s at most. This isn't absolute, of course--we have lore of at least one Warden being in his 60s, after all--but I think common sense dictates that 30 years is just an average. I don't think it means that someone who is 50 when they become tainted can expect to live another 30 years barring circumstances beyond the taint sickness.
I think Loghain was 18 at the time of Stolen Throne. That makes him around 48 or so during Origins, and it will have been a minimum of ten years by the time DA:I comes around. I doubt he'd be good for much, honestly, beyond waiting for his Calling.

If he is alive, he is both old and a Grey Warden with the taint getting ready to catch up with him. I don't particularly like the guy, so don't want him back. But for those playthroughs where he's still around, let the man retire for cripe's sake.
He'll be in his late fifties/near sixty sure, but back then in our contemporary version of medieval times people were more fit -- particularly soldiers -- and were capable of still fighting really well. I think, anyway...
Aside from that, however, the Taint doesn't actually detract from your physical capabilities. Mental, yes, but that's only later in life since Wardens can go for 30 years (though originally DG said he didn't mean for it to be taken that way, I also recall in the same statement in some interview or something he said what amounted to "It is what it is, so that's the way it'll be I guess.").
Loghain wouldn't start to mentally deteriorate until around his twentieth year at the earliest, I surmise.
Also, Avernus' research.

You can determine his age by starting with The Stolen Throne and working your way through to 9:40 Dragon. Maric in the comic (if that is in fact Maric) is probably about 62 or so.

Fair enough, in his mid-sixties. Still, I think he'd be physically fit enough. The Taint actually seems to make Wardens stronger and it's known that the Taint sustains the Darkspawn -- and if Larius is anything to go off of, Warden Ghouls as well.
And Larius was able to beat Janeka to death.
So I still see him as being physically capable and mentally capable as well.
Also, it does seem to be Maric. Wasn't there a flashback to Maric in The Silent Grove that showed him leaving the prison, where his appearance is the same as what we saw in there? I'd say it's him, especially since it was stated Titus wanted the blood of Calenhad and had captured Maric.

Loghain doesn't seem like the type to enjoy retirement. After you read your fifteenth book this month and spend your fourth weekend in a row at Lake Calenhad, sitting around having wine on the balcony-- I don't see it working out for an active man like Loghain. I believe he'll die with a sword in his hand.
I think Loghain wouldn't actually mind retirement, but more to the point I think Loghain would happily go back to being his own man. Retiring doesn't mean you'll stop being active, it means you can do your own thing now.

As I said above, I don't think the 30 years thing is meant to be taken to literally mean that every Warden has 30 years from the day they ingest darkspawn blood. I think that was Alistair talking to a young Warden the same age as him, and figuring that that gave THEM approximately 30 years. I think it's kind of absurd to think, given how the taint works, that if two people become Wardens at the same time, one at age 20 and the other at age 50, that they'll both be able to expect the same time frame.

Now if for example you run into a camp of grey wardens somewhere along the way in Orlais that you can visit repeatedly, we could have our previous games influence who becomes their leader. If Loghain lived then he becomes their leader, if Alistair stays in the wardens then he becomes the leader, if the two that I mentioned do not apply with a living Nathaniel from Awakening (if you played it) then he becomes the leader and if none of the above apply then Stroud is the leader.
note: I know that Bioware most likely wouldn't put this many variations into something like this it is just an example.
