I recently bought and installed ME1 on my Windows 7 (64) PC laptop. It's given me nothing but trouble so far.
It meets all system requirements. Initially, after
installing and restarting, I got an error message every time I clicked
"Play" on the Mass Effect opening menu screen:
"Mass Effect configuration utility has stopped working."
"A
problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will
close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
This was corrected by manually downloading and installing a patch. The configuration utility now runs just fine, and I can change whatever I want.
However, now, when I click "Play", the game doesn't actually launch. It seems to start "loading" something, but gives up after about 20 seconds, and nothing happens. I've repeated this a bunch of times, and restarted by now a whole bunch of times, too, and nothing changes.
What gives?
My copy of ME won't run in Windows 7.

There is almost no one here. It is off-season, and the game is VERY old. You might as well break down and help yourself far enough to provide the information that is outlined in the sticky.
