Hi guys newbie posting on the forum here so if I unintentionally break any rules my apologies in advance  !  Also apologies for posting a question that no doubt has already been gone over again and again in the past.. I spent over an hour between google and searching the forum trying to get a "for sure" answer to this question but still wasn't 100 percent certain so...

Like a lot of people out there I'm certain  :)  , I was halfway through playing the "normal" version of Dragon Age Origins when I thought to myself " this is a COOL game, I've GOT to get ' Dragon Age Ultimate ' so I get all the bonus missions and so forth"... so I purchased DA Ultimate ..but now in a sense it's like I purchased the same game twice, "normal" DA and "ultimate" version (I know  there are people who will disagree with me on the " I purchased the same  game twice " thing but .. ) .. Both games were NOT purchased as downloads...I purchased the actual, physical DVD/CD game discs in both circumstances , from amazon actually  :)  ....

I would love to give my old "normal" version of DA to a friend of mine as a gift since I no longer really have any use for it... my friend probably won't be bummed about missing out on any of the downloadable content (DLC) that came packaged with DA Ultimate - even without the DLC  it's a great game !  :)    ... What I'm wondering is.. if my friend installs it on her PC then uses the same activation code I used to install  it initially on my PC  .. will it even work?  Or will she get  a " error this code has already been used" sort of message?  I uninstalled the "normal" version of DA from my computer which I THINK meant it got un-registered from my account?  When I click on the "my games" link my old version of DA isn't listed as "registered" under  the "dragon age PC game" category , there's a "click  here to register" option instead...

Even if this is possible... does doing this sort of thing get the game manufacturers (EA or Bioware or what not) upset?   If I only bought one copy of the game then tried to pass it on to someone else after completing  it I can see why they would get a bit annoyed...  but my reasoning is (if you agree with my initial proposition that is that I sort of "bought the game twice" :P  ) since I've purchased the game "twice" in a manner of fashion I should be allowed to pass my "old" copy of the game on to someone else to enjoy ..  I actually bought the same friend a brand new copy of Mass Effect 2  'cause I liked it so much I wanted to get her the game too !  :)   .. hopefully this shows I'm not trying to support  piracy or any such thing , I want Bioware to be along for a long time to come and I don't want to do anything to hurt their bottom line/profit either !

Any help on this topic would be wonderful.. thanks so much for reading !  :)   ..

Sounds like you did things right. Just make sure you "unregistered" your old DAO cd-key, then you can give the game to your friend who can register it to her/his EA account.

As you noted, you can check by clicking on the left side menu and choosing "My Games -> Register Games", to find the ones associated, or waiting to be associated, with your account.

[EDIT:  Less sure about any DLC activation codes you may have had.  Friend may have to use new ones of her/his own...]

Hey Thandal thanks so much for your reply ! :) Sorry to sound like such a doofus :( but... I did a google search for "unregistered" and "dragon age origins cd key" with no luck :( .. when I uninstalled my old "normal " Dragon Age Origins did that automatically make my CD key for it "unregistered"? Or are there additional steps I need to take? I heard rumors about EA having some sort of "unregister" type of tool but not seeing it online... I also get the vague impression from my google research I would have to contact EA directly to unregister? Which would be a bummer, calling them does no good get an automated message directing me to their forums and their live chat has been down like forever :( ..

Easiest way to verify things is to click "BioWare Game Support" at the bottom of this page under "Help". It'll take you to EA Customer Support page. Look for "Contact us - Get Back in the Game" (on the lower-right, I believe) and then fill-in the boxes until you can click "Live Chat".

Explain what you've done, what you want to do, and have the Support Rep give you the OK!

Well great big DOH on my part.. I saw the grayed out "chat not available" boxes and simply assumed that their live chat function was down... clicked on the drop down boxes like you said and sure enough was able to chat with someone in under 5 minutes (smacks head) .. thank you for pointing out the painfully obvious to me that I should have caught on my own :P ... It turns out that the code that came with the game was never "registered".. if you don't purchase downloadable content or use any of the codes that came with the game then the code is considered "free and clear" to give as a gift to someone else (according to the rep I chatted with anyways) so looks like I'm all set and can get some use out of the "old" copy of Dragon Age I have .. which is great my friend will love it ! Thanks again for all your help and time Thandal it's greatly appreciated! :) .. PS thumbs up on the Leliana Appreciation Society you're in, I keep hearing people say how boring she is for some reason.. but personally I think she makes the game a ton of fun ! :) .. love the banter she has with Morrigan about shoes at one point in the game ! (lol) ..
