What is a Wii-U?
*Can't tell if sarcastic.*
It is the new Nintendo game system and actually has the guts to run current gen games. It also has the advantage of a touch screen controller that could have been used to allow remapping of character prowers on the fly. Despite its bulk the Wii-U game pad is actually better suited to action RPGs as it gives keyboard like flexibility in control arrangement and number. That's ASSuming developers get the support from Nintendo to do that. I don't actually believe Nitty is up to it, they havent played nice with 3rd party devs since the N64.
Wii-U Mass Effect should get events, even the PS players are now in them despite not having a splash screen. It comes down to Bioware getting the FeedBack data, which they use to determine if an account has meet the goal.

Who will buy something called a Wii-U. No one but little kids and their grandmas, sorry that sounded a little rude but it is kind of true. Hardcore gamers will stick to PC or the next Xbox. I also predict Sony's next console being a bigger failure than the PS3.
Because only real hardcore gamers who play said games in a hardcore fashion would deign to boycott a product simply because it has a stupid name, amirite?

Though I don't really see them having a huge population.

If Nintendo was serious about the hardcore gamers why did they feel the need to call it a Wii-U. It is because they care more about the casual gamers and NOT the hardcore gamer. They can try all they like but they themselves and other Publishers have realised that the hardcore gamer will not come back to Nintendo to play 3rd party games on it so might as well focus on the casual Wii crowd and call it a Wi-U.

Anyway, I was just thinking about the Wii-U community a few days ago. I'm hoping we can get some newcomers in to join in on the weekend events.

You do realize Nintendo is a Japanese company? What do they know about how something "sounds" to hardcore American gamers? And you cannot possibly say they aren't trying to get the hardcore crowd in now that Call of Duty will be on their consoles.

The problem is the hardcore crowd will need to buy the Wii-U first to be able play the same games they can easily play on their current systems. I don't see this happening and neither does Nintendo or other Publishers. It is just Wii all over again and the casuals is what might save it although Apple products are more popular among casuals now so dont be surprised if Wii-U is a flop like the PS Vita.

To be fair, the naming of a system is fair criticism. Branding, product names, all tie into reputation and people are not likely to go out and buy something that they perceive as being 'uncool'. And it's not like Nintendo haven't renamed a console specifically for the English-speaking market with a name different from what was used in Japan (eg. Famicom = NES). Of course, in a world that has become increasingly globalized via the internet, I'm not sure it's really possible to keep regional differences of name and branding of very popular products and services. And of course, the Wii's silly name didn't stop Nintendo shifting tons of units, far outselling PS3 and Xbox 360 for a long time, so it's entirely possible the name of Wii-U itself won't stall sales (price point, launch games, etc. are more likely to affect sales).
But I can understand people seeing Nintendo as being a company that isn't necessarily interested in concentrating their efforts on hardcore gamers, because I think that's true: there's so much more money to be made with casual gamers because there are more of them than hardcore gamers. The Wii's success hinged on its success amongst people who would never consider themselves console gamers, and arguably most hardcore gamers were already more likely to spend their money on either the PS3 or the Xbox 360 that competing for an increasingly smaller piece of the hardcore gamer pie was a mug's game.
Unfortunately, all this means is that hardcore gamers are less likely to view future Nintendo products as catering to them, and thus, more likely to spend their money in the Playstation or Xbox ecosystems. I don't think the Wii's subpar specs helped any, which I hope the Wii-U will have rectified. Fortunately for Nintendo, they have some breathing room with the global economic recession, because Sony and Microsoft are less likely to start selling a next-generation console any time soon (although you never know, Microsoft may well be feeling that the 360 has gotten a little too long in the tooth, and itching to kickstart the next gen console race to get a headstart, like they did with the 360 - rumours abound, at any rate).
