So you're saying they should hold the Day 1 DLC and just wait for 1 extra month before releasing it?

Great idea. I'm sure that will increase sales AND make players enjoy it more.

No, I'm not saying this. I didn't say anything actually, I just wrote.

Now, what I did write was that I think they shouldn't work on DLC before releasing a game.

Why?

Because it makes no sense to work on an extra something for a game that hasn't even been released!

Then they should release it for free. Are you really ok with having to pay 10 extra bucks for a big part of the story?

Yes, it's only 10 dollars. It's not going to make or break the bank.

for me it kinda does case i can barely afford to get the game in frist place then add to that i need me more money or i can never have a complete game

There are alternatives such as cashing in cans and bottles which I hear still turn a profit while simutaneously helping the environment , signing up for a rewards site that offers xbox 360 reward point cards or wait till you have all your bank together to make the purchase.

Well what if they had it in the default copy and just added 10 dollars to the price? Way I see it, the current system allows players who want more content to pay for the extra development cost of the content.

I agree. I'm sick of this money grabbing rubbish.

I find it hard to believe that it only took Bioware a month to make Javik with all his Dialogue and cut scenes. Not to mention that he was leaked before the game went gold. I already payed for the game. Why should I have to pay more to get the complete game?

I played me3 for a whole 2 months without javik and noticed no significant difference with him in or out of game. The same goes for sebastian and shale. The one and only thing that irked me about sebastian was that leliana and her codex was tied to his dlc.Other than that, he was as extra as any other Dlc companion bioware adds.

The game with all the story and characters the developpers wanted to put in from the start.

Whether it is true or not some think that a day 1 DLC is cut from the game. Simply do not provide such a DLC. If you still want to sell something then sell a "package" on day 1 at a reduced cost that allows one to get 3 future DLC. I think SR3 did something similar. You'll still sell something and the gamers like me would be happy.

Just using DA2 as an example, MotA and Legacy were DLC that were complete, self contained missions that added to the game, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not having them on my first playthrough.  The Exiled Prince, however, has scenes that I feel add to the story, and the confrontation between Anders and Sebastian should have been part of the main game.  I also feel like Sebastian should have been a full fledged party member or not included at all, but that's just me.  I am really not a fan of the idea of characters created for DLC.

GOTY edition.  Or DLCs that are post endgame but then that might get into another discussion of where the end is.
I am still waiting on episode 3.

One can't in any non-arbitrary fashion.  You could define DA:O as complete with Alistair and Morrigan as the only party members if you wanted to stretch it.

Which is one reason why I prefer to stick to my own arbitrary definition of "everything available at launch", rather than leaving it to a company that has every commercial interest in defining it in as narrow way as possible in order to sell more stuff at inflated DLC prices.

Though if there's a blatant placeholder for a missing character without the DLC installed like in ME3, then I don't think it's very arbitrary to consider it incomplete.

That would just be awesome, but sadly it can't always happen. There are many outlying circumstances that could lead to the necessity of day 1 DLC that no one on BSN seems to grasp. Budget, time, disc space, etc.

Developers will always get what they can on the retail disc, but on the off chance that they can't, its unfair to raise our pitchforks at them. Day 1 DLC is not a "slap in the face" in this case, its just what needed to be done.

You realize if we did this, this means that we would never release DLC, expansions, and in many cases even sequels.

Me neither. They end up being unimportant and with way less content.

You'd probably also never be able to finish the game with the development time and bankroll that would require. Developers are an imaginative people.

Time to get over it people. It will probably be there. I for one dont care. I just look at it as a game company using extra means to bring in more income to finance future titles. It is means more Dragon Age, bring it on. The market isnt what it used to be. Game companies need to do this to stay in business. Frankly, we should be supporting them in it if it is a company or title you really like.

What about no new characters as day 1 dlc, but having a returning companion as day 1 dlc instead( like Zevran)?

Pffft I would, I'm still saddened by the lack thereof in the last two entries.
