Very likely to be an unpopular opinion, but....I quite like the idea of playing an ex-Chantry sort. As in, somebody sent to join in the Inquisition as a token of co-operation and diplomacy between the Chantry and the new organisation. You could roleplay it SO many ways. You could be a devout hardline Andrastian all the way through the game or someone who decides their previous faith was akin to "brainwashing" and thus rejecting it violently; somebody who questions their faith in interesting ways, somebody who never questions their faith but is moved by what s/he sees and maybe tries to interpret the Chant in a way not traditionally accepted by the Chantry; somebody who violently rejects magic, or simply sees mages as the Maker's children; somebody who sees an opportunity to build bridges with other cultures and races, or someone who sees a chance to punish heretics.... there are just so many RP opportunities you could have with it.

I'm fairly sure BSN would explode, though.

If I had my druthers, I'd say:

City Elf
Dalish Keeper,
Kal-Sharok Dwarf,
Tal-Vashoth Kossith,
Chasind Human,
Rivaini Seer.

I think class division should be like... If you want to be a mage, you can be a Dalish Keeper (elf), a Chasind Shaman (human), or a Rivaini Seer (any race). Maybe even the Tal-Vashoth, for then you can be a Saarabas who's finally broken free if a mage and a fighter otherwise. Warriors and Rogues can be optional for any other race or background.

That's what I want to see, anyway. I want to explore other races and cultures.

I've also been working on a dwarven mercenary one.
Your parents are dead and you live with a traveling band of mercenaries owned by and dwarf noble to recover his family thaig. Along the way through the deep roads your best friends is a deep crawler you fouund when you were a child and with training he became a darkspawn killer. Because of his nimble fighting and sharp claws, you have to put a safe guard over his mouth for every battle, so the creature cant corrupt.
The leader of the mercenaries is oghren, hero of the blight, he leads you and the group of sixty other dwarves deeper into the roads. it was oghren's thaig they were fighting for.
You see an opening in the rock ahead and tell the rest of the band. they begin chipping at the rock and as the wall crumbles you see what is there; An abandoned thaig! massive and crumbling itself. you make your way around, collecting treasure and if you choose... stealing them too. after a few moments you hear scuffling on the roofs. you look up to see hundreds of darkspawn crawling around up there, being stealthy, with crossbows in hand. you can choose to hide or fight. if you choose to fight you don't get far when a barrel of black powder explodes and nocks you back into a building.
the others inclufing oghren are slaughtered. you have to escape with the darkspawn, who have become intellegent, on your tail. you run through another tunnel and run for days until you se an opening in thr roof. you climb up and you look around. 'Orlais...' you say.

hope you guys like it:lol:

having the option to skip the origins is a good idea i think. but if we have both it would be a much better game!

I stated in another thread that, as a compromise, maybe they can do what Mass Effect did where you choose what kind of person your character is. That way, you still get the feeling of where your character came from, and it takes a lot less development resources.

I would like to be able to choose from a few different protag careers. And I'd like the protags to be more than just human.  It'd be nice to choose Elf, Dalish, Kossith, Dwarf, or maybe a human who had an elf for a parent. They don't call them half-elves, but they could make it clear that this type of human is different from a full blooded human. In any case, it'd give your character a certain edge over the full blooded human option...

But the game doesn't necessarily have to have "origins". Since it's the 3rd game, starting out with "origins" is a bit redundant. Dragon Age Origins had origins. It was the first game. This is the third game. Maybe it should start with a certain vocation, or career.

It'd be nice to have various career points from which to choose the kickoff of the Inquisitor's story. You pick one of these starting careers and races, and you still select whatever class (rogue, warrior, mage) you want to be.

Example List (I made it extensive for brainstorming's sake, but they wouldn't have to use all of these...):

- Dalish Smith/Armorer
- Dalish Teacher
- Dalish Halla Keeper
- Dalish Archivist/Historian
- Human Diplomat/Cultural Attaché
- Human Mabari Trainer
- Human Prostitute
- Human Chasind Hunter/Poacher
- Dwarven Crow Assassin
- Dwarven Poison Merchant
- Dwarven Painter
- Dwarven Servant to Royalty
- City Elf  Poet/Writer
- City Elf  Slave
- City Elf  Woodcutter
- City Elf  Equal Rights Activist
- Kossith Nomadic Herder
- Kossith Qunari Saarebas
- Kossith Fog Warrior
- Kossith Traveling Mercenary

These aren't really origins, but rather they are the protag's role/careers. Even being a slave is, essentially, a job. It just doesn't pay and it isn't a choice. Regardless, these careers could blossom into becoming an Inquisitor. Some of them might not work, I know. As I said, I was brainstorming on the spot. But does anyone see where I'm coming from with these suggestions? You can get really creative with careers too. It can go above and beyond just a merchant or a smith. You could have a protag who is a politician or someone else who is a master chef.

Edit: I know the devs can't really comment here because they'd be giving too much away. I assume after working on DA3 for two years, now, they already have an idea of how they plan to kickoff the game. I will purchase the game regardless of how it starts out, but the fact of the matter is that fans do want variety when it boils down to character races/background stories. Having a pre-generated background story is a little less RPG and a little more action-adventure, like say the Legend of Zelda or Okami. Which, don't get me wrong, I love those gaming franchises, but DA3 might get a plethora of negative reviews from those seeking the whole "RPG" aspect. (Which, I'm sorry, that's what they advertise the game as being: an RPG. So... if it's a ROLE playing game, then give us some different roles to play...)

Races and origins are my dreams for DA3.

And I find very enteresting tha Kossith race. It would be cool to have a character who never krew the Qun, and wish to know more about it.

that is a great compromise:happy: but it just wouldn't feel as personal, ya know?:crying: i mean i think one reason people played different races and different origins was to make it more personal.

but still a great idea:happy::happy::happy::happy:

No matter how much we want origins to return I dont think bioware will do it again. More likely solution to the problem would be what you just gave and frankly for me it's a good idea and a good enough trade off if they take out DA:O like origins and use the resources to expand the story, add more branching choices make the cities more big and lively etc etc..

I think it would be hilarious if they added a biography tab where you can write your character's background. If only because people would then complain that their origin is meaningless because npcs aren't acknowledging their past.

Do they have females? I know that's a question elsewhere on the forums, but I'm lazy. Answer me, dammit. (kidding)

I don't think Darkspawns are going to cause any trouble at the moment. The archedemon has been slained, and they won't need the Grey Wardens for a while. Although Origins stories that tie to the Templar-mage conflict would be nice.

I'd like to play as a female Kossith. or even a male Kossith. It would be my second character. First my beloved Elf girl. Than would came the other race. But I know already i won't play Human, if the origin is noble. I just...don't like noble people to begin with, expecially in games.
i rarely let even Alistair became king...only if my character is male...but even like that, I prefer leave him be a Gray Warden, is much happier this way.
and I'm really not interested in make my characters became King/Queen...a Elf queen coulbe be fun, but I'm on PS3, so I can't use mods.

For now, the Origins that I would like to see are:

Dalish mage
City Elf assassin/rogue (a Crow?)
Kossith warrior (I don't see them as rogue...)
