people don't find origins necessary. but i think they are. in a game if you see your father or mother or friend killed just after a few minutes you're like. 'ok whatever...' but if you see how close they are, what they're like and how they act, it affects the story in a much bigger way.

I'd like an origin story. But as far as need, it's a first world luxury item. It would be nice to have, but has no necessity inherent in it. Given a choice between clean drinking water and origin stories in Dragon Age 3 most poor residents of impoverished areas would be tempted by the origin story option but would, in the end, select clean drinking water.

So it isn't really a need, but more of a desire.

:? that's what i'm saying.... kind of...
look what i mean is if origins were in this game it could only improve it. because there would undoubtedly be an option to skip the origins if your a boring person.... just kidding
but no... it is not the biggest need for this game... but it is deffinently something that would make it amazing.

Plus i'm sure everyone would choose drinking water over any kind of gaming entertainment... unless they're a gaming nut that is:D

I don't need Dragon Age 3: Origins. I need Dragon Age 3: Inquisition.

Although I would prefer origin stories in DA3 (mainly Dalish), I doubt it will happen. At best the class we choose will define our background

Water?

Whats that?

I live on a diet of coffee, coke, V, and the occasional juice - its the only way to keep awake long enough to indulge in more gaming entertainment.

no but in all fairness i think Bioware can pull this off again. DA2 missed origins and suffered for it.
and don't say rubbish like "too much resources would be wasted!" Bioware is a MAJOR company!!! they can do this! :)

I believe that a compelling story that draws the player in, and really makes them feel a part of the game world, is the important thing. If that story uses a "background/origin" style story, that's great. If it doesn't, but is still compelling, that's great too.

I don't care about HOW Bioware pulls me, as a player and a character, into the story. As long as they DO. And thus far, I have never been disappointed.

I also hope for an origins-like beginning. I missed being able to play other races. I also thought that the beginnings of DAO gave me the opportunity to craft a character and get immersed in their world. It was nice viewing things from different perspectives, and that made the world deeper.

Agreed. When Carver died I was like "Lol, random red shirt just got hit".

Well, not every RPG kills your father or mother or friend. (Did Bio invent doing this in BG1? I can't think of an earlier example)

I think we will see DA continue to move away from origin stories to class stories like they did in DA2.

Of course there won't be origin stories, they are a from a game that bioware seems to hate, we'll never see them again.

Calm down. He's trolling you. While there may or may not be origin stories, Bioware does not "hate" DA:O, and will not be turning down an idea just because it appeared there. That's just silly.

I'd like to be able to choose my character's background, but I'd be satisfied with a Mass Effect style system if the resources are better used to add more permutations to the main campaign.

Well I think they should at least have one well crafted origin that takes place before the events of the main plot instead of just putting us in the thick of it like DA2. Getting caught in the crossfire of a huge battle between the mages and templars would be an excellent opening, so you can get a feeling of how dire the civil war has become before you start your quest to solve it.
