A lot of people seem disappointed that ME3 even had a multiplayer but I enjoyed our cheap horde mode because before I couldn't play my favorite bioware games with my friends so I was happy that bioware decided to go the extra step with Mass Effect and add some form of multiplayer and I sincerely hope bioware continues to make multiplayer in games and hopefully there will be major improvements in how they make multiplayer but I also hope they don't degrade the single player. I'm sure many people disagree but unlike some people, I have friends I like to play video games with.

My biggest concern (besides content being locked behind a MP wall) is wondering how many hours of SP content will be cut to  make room for MP?  It all has to fit on two disks, doesn't it?

People who cite Baldur's gate as an example of MP should remember that it had 50+ hours of single player content, and was on five disks. If Bioware feels free to have that much SP content, unfettered by disk space, I say fine, add all the MP you want.  But if you have to drop stuff for space, no.  Single player first, multiplayer if there's still room afterwards.

I concur. Disc space is one aspect of the discussion most people (including myself) forget to mention.

Even if EA adds extra time and money to the budget and development cycle for the game so that not a dime or a minute less is spent developing the SP than would have otherwise, it is STILL an issue of how much you can fit into one game. If the game is going to be on current-gen consoles instead of just a next-gen exclusive, then disc space will be a serious concern.

Having anything more than two discs these days is a taboo instance (heck, in many cases, having more than one disc is), so anything that wouldn't fit on the physical disc will need to be cut, reduced, scaled back and/or marginalized. If things in the SP campaign are cut back in this manner to make sure MP fits, then that is only to the detriment of the product.

I'd be OK with losing some SP content for good MP. Do it, BioWare.

In most cases true 2 disks is the unwritten limit I can however remember back to pre-dvd days when sims2 came on 4 CD's or further back to the days of the Amiga 500 when Adventures of monkey Island came on wait for it 13 floppy disks, I have noticed that in general when a MP element is included the SP suffers and once we allow this farcical idea to let EA get their foot in the door so to speak they will roundhouse kick the door down and have microtransactions, always online DRM etc we have to hold fast put our foot down and say Hell No we shall not be moved

yeah and the Baldur's Gate and NEverwinter Nights games came on 4-5 disks as well.  And while sure data strorage has come a long way, cinematics, animations, and voice acting eat up a lot of space too.  I'm sure a lot of people don't factor that into games (or don't really care about narrative rpgs and just wanna hack & slash stuff)

After the latest SimCity, I'm pretty much convinced that multiplayer, microtransactions, and always online DRM is going to infect everything.  I may need to find a new hobby...

Edit:  or do my video game shopping via Kickstarter
