Perhaps we'll finally move onto companions which can do things by themselves.

Anders could do plenty of stuff all by himself, and everybody in the playerbase loved him for it :P

Anders sucks.

So does Cassandra.

I dont think shes too "manly", but I think at this point shes too much a leader or used to doing things her way to be a companion.

I got the impression that she's high ranking in the seekers, but not in charge.  I thought it was Leliana who was making the decisions at the end...

I think it could be pretty cool to play cassandra the seeker.

In fact I'm really hoping that they let you play as Either a Templar, Mage or Seeker, and your actions help decide the fate of the Mage/Templar war.

But without our companions being imcompetent in almost every aspect of their lives, what's left for the protagonist to do?

Get back to his world domination?  The goals of each PC seem so weak, why would you allow yourself to be ruled when you have the power to rule?

Maybe Cassandra should be the protagonist?

Ugh no. Don't really care enough about her. Don't even want her as a companion. She's so uninteresting.

I want to be a mage that is a mole in the Templar's by the Seekers who is also an informant for the sapient Darkspawn controlled by Flemeth who's buddy buddy with a new Archdemon

Cassandra is someone who can get things done, that's true, but I doubt that she is truly the leader type. A leader needs to be not only strong and smart, but also charismatic. A leader needs to inspire loyalty.
And I honestly don't think Cassandra is that kind of person. If we know one thing about her, it's that she's a hothead and tends to let her feelings guide her. She also couldn't get Varric to talk without threatening him and even then he only talked because he wanted to, so there goes that whole charisma thing. (Of course, that is debatable.)

She might not make a good leader, but she'd be the perfect second-in-command.

Well that just leads to a more interesting companion.

Well, if she's not a companion, she could still be a major NPC and quest giver.
However, I think she's likely to be a companion - and why not? She wouldn't be the first companion we've had who is more senior/influential/important than our PC. Aveline, for example, was a guard captain - much more important than a pre-Champion Hawke.

I've been expecting her to have an Aribeth type of role.

I've stated it many times, but I'm nothing if not persevering: Given that Bioware keeps focused on the cinematic approach, Cassandra should be the main player character in DA:I.

Too "manly"? What does that even mean? And what's with all of the Cassandra with a beard memes? Some people on here are just strange.

Why does someone need to be 'manly' in order to be awesome? What does that even mean? Are you suggesting that a 'normal woman' wouldn't be able to take care of herself?

It would be cool if Bioware surprises us, and kills her of early in the game. Similar to what they did with Mhairi.

No one is safe!

Wouldn't that be a bit distasteful?

Having another female warrior die wouldn't give a good implication for Bioware.

What would be an 'acceptable' target then, by your estimation?

For the start of the game, how about none?

There is nothing tasteful or fair about death.

It's about the shock value. Just like Scream were they killed of the expected protagonist in the opening scene. So should Bioware kill of a character with an expected large role to play in the game. It worked great in Origins when King Cailan got wasted.

Perhaps also have Cole wasted. Absoulutely no one is safe, and **** just got serious!

Well she is part of the concept art for DAIII and BioWare kinda hint about her, a templar guy and orlai at PAX or another convention that I can't sadly remember.

Cassandra for companion and LI, I think she has great potential

-Hot
-Strong
-Sexy accent
-She does profanity! (BULL****)
-She's not a zealot (in the last moments she seems to relax her tone with Varric and comes to hate him a bit less)
-Female tank? I'd say she's fighter more than rogue.
-An expert interrogator (potential for a Thane-Shepard interrogation scene style)
