A lot of things were SUPPOSED to depend on our gameplay. Leliana and Anders dead(or alive) including.Well that'd be tricky because it depends on your gameplay in DA2. He could be tranquil or he could be normal. It depends on what you did with him.
I only said that I find the idea of tranquil companion interesting, if performed right. Feynriel looks like a nice candidate. That'd be...refreshing among all those SerKnights, mages and rogues. Not sure about what combat role could tranquil take though. I mean they are supposed to be cut away from magic and casting, right? Well, some physical training still could happen. They are calm - so they could be nice archers...I think. Or do some staff combat.
Tallis...I can't say I loved her much, but did not hate her. Her character is too easy to ruin and turn into Liara 2.0. But assasin elf that tries to follow the Qun - yes, please. It may be interesting, if arc is written well. I don't care for her being LI, because I play straight femHeroes (just hope that she will not hit on my DA3femHero first).

I think the obvious choices are Cullen, Cassandra, and Tallis. They cannot die in their respective games/DLCs, and they're popular. I'd love to see Varric again, too, and this time as a LI.

Tallis: I can take her or leave her.
I guess I didn't really like Tallis *all* that much because I didn't feel like I was questing with a completely new fantasy character - I just felt like Felicia Day assimilated herself into the game.
She's all like, "Hey guys! Get a boner for me, ok?"
Which is cool, and I like her as an actress, but I dunno. For example, as much as I'd wouldn't mind making out with Johnny Depp, it'd be stupid to just put a Johnny Depp elf clone in a game, voiced by him and everything. But then again, Day's idea to be a character was just DLC so no harm done. I really wouldn't want her as a permanent companion though. I guess if they put her in DA3, they should change the title to: Dragon Age 3: Inquisition With Felicia Day.

Johny Depp wouldn't make a good elf. But I'd ravage him as a dwarf.Trista Faux Hawke wrote...

I like this idea too.hadrain77 wrote...
How about no one from the first two games comes back and we get all new companions. It made sense in the first two games because Fereldens were feeing to the Free Marches due to the blight but if it's set in Orlais I don't want to see the same people again. Not sure about others but I've learned all I want to know about the people from 1 and 2 and would prefer to learn more about the other people in this hugh world of Thedais. It makes the world seem so small when we see the same people over and over again.
To be clear, I think returning characters becoming companions should be kept to a minimum. One or two is good, maintains some sense of continuity, and Cassandra doesn't really count as returning, but less than half the cast should be comprised of returning characters.
Old companions should not return.

Feynriel, Yes. I would dislike having a party member that's canonically stronger than my mage but. I want to see what he looks like in DA3. That's about it really. Unless I can say Isabela...again.
Im not sure if i am remembering rightly...but cant he walk into others dreams? I think it was said he can even kill people that way, if he can take others in with him that would make for some really interesting quest opportunities.

Aveline wasn't so bad either. But her story was a bit less interesting, I'll agree. Hawke saw what happened to her first husband, and watched her move up in the city guard. But beyond that, Aveline had zero backstory. She said Lothering wasn't the first home she watched burn to the ground, but she really fails to expand on anything prior to Lothering. Hm.
However, I completely agree with your initial sentiment. Bring on new characters. Lots of them. Go out with a bang. I'd like to see some side characters that were barely touched on in DAO or DA2, e.g. Feynriel. But that's about it. And if they don't show up - no harm, no foul.

Unless they are fan made Half God entities (Tali, Garrus) or circumstances of their demise is questionable (found burned up body or body was never found tho some saw him/her die) character must have 100% survival chance to become future companion.
My guess:
Iona's daughter (Amethyne) from Human Noble origin. We can see her later in Denerim Alienage. She is originally from Orlais and it's told that she will inherit her mother's looks.
Bevin and Fergus are also interesting possibilities (Even tho it's never proven that it was actually Flemeth that saved Fergus it is atleast +1 point to that we'll see Fergus again)

Fergus Cousland could be very cool actually. Did he survive even if the Warden wasn't a human Noble? I can't remember. But yeah, I can kind of see Fergus in this character... but maybe I'm imagining things.
Yes he does. I played a mage and in Awakening Oghren says something about Fergus. And in the closure it said that Nathaniel saved Fergus' life and gave back some of his land.
