I feel the same way about Mutants from Marvel Comics. I don't think mutants should be able to walk around freely like normal people could, because normal people can't melt heads with their minds. But I don't think mutants should be bagged and tagged every once in a while to make sure they don't go out of line. There's got to be a middle line somewhere.

Yeah, there was quite few templars which were opposite of zealots, maybe little religious but still good people - still love that blind templar from DA:O Ser Otto...

I kinda want the templars to be toned down in DA3... Along with the mages... I want everyone to behave in a believable manner, with maybe one or two psychopaths running around... By the end of DA2, I was sick of the whole argument and didn't want to join either side really...

This thread makes me laugh even though I'll probably not side with Templars. At least not the cray-cray ones.

"THE MAKER HATES YOU!" Priceless.

Also that's a nice Meredith poster.

I'd walk hand-in-hand with Lambert as we cut down the apostates in the name of the Maker and overthrow the Divine and replace her with someone more... sympathetic to our cause. Mages are too ignorant of the threat they pose.

Goddamned Mages. I just hate them soooooooooo much.

On a serious note, Anders and Merrill didn't screw up because they were mages that became Abominations. They screwed up because they were screwed up to begin with. They had problems due to all sorts of factors that led them to do what they did.

I can't support the Templars because as you said in the title, they're zealots. I actually understand the need to watch Mages and make sure they keep regular people safe from them, but I don't agree with treating them as second-class citizens because of how they're born.

I feel the same way about Mutants from Marvel Comics. I don't think mutants should be able to walk around freely like normal people could, because normal people can't melt heads with their minds. My middle line theory involves high minimum qualify of life. It is still a gilded cage, but it'd go a long way to prevent a lot of the tension(especially tension from mistreatment). Give mages a nice place to live, treat them kindly, educate them(especially in how to avoid becoming an abomination), and give them important and meaningful work to do.

I'm going to hold off choosing how I'm going to solve the Mage vs Templar problem until I know what the options are  (After the game comes out).  However, if one of those options involves using magic to merge templars and mages together with magic, I may eat my keyboard in rage.

The only obvious safe solution to the mage danger is to kill them immediately after they show signs of magic, with no exception. A similarly effective method would be that of the Qunari. Alternatively, mages could consider being much more cooperative so that control methods could be much less unpleasant. But that would require people cooperating with each other and we all know that never happens. (it would be boring if they cooperated anyway)

Wouldn't be wise, nations would hoard mages and use them in a war and those who kill them off immediately would be conquered. Circle is the best way, forces mages into a faction which usually doesn't show signs of bias in terms of conquest.

Keeps the populace safe, prevents mages from being used as war assets (except by the Chantry) and prevents groups like the Qunari from swarming in and conquering everyone.

I could happily get on board with the Qunari method
That's one group that really has its act together.

I realy don´t understand how someone could develop such characters for DA2. exactly Merrill and Anders which are the pure kind of opposite of what we should see, the calm and peaceful wise mages, instead we got some puberty passing individuals which demmands to be something either their way or you can go fu...

Otherwise Merrill was playing with that mirror without knowlendge what it caused - her clanleader sacrifice herself to save Merrill and I cannot blame people for hating her, she was playing with things which were beyond her comprehension and it backfired very ugly.

And Anders? Please - that spirit of Justice, is pure madness ... We are going to blew chantry to pissed off all templars and start slaughter of those which we want to deffend. It´s irrational behavior, if I need to liberate circle, than I blew to hell templar´s barracks and not chantry.

Wynne shoud beat the crap out of them both....

There is one cruicial difference between Merril and Anders. Merril was trying to help her people and it was never her intention to hurt ANYONE. Anders on the other hand has been planing murder for a long time.

In the end, regardless of intentions, it ended bad in both cases.

Which just goes to show you the danger of mages. Even good ones can bring ruin uppon the innocent.

It is good that templars exist, but mages diserve pitty. Even Anders.

Anders deserves pity in the same sense that stupid people deserve pity, because his plan was stupid and not thought out properly. How is turning everyone against the mages going to help them achive freedom. If the mages try to fight for freedom and all the nations and common folk of thedas don't support them.. The mages havn't got a snowflakes hope in hell of achieving freedom.

And thats what his actions did, turned the city of Kirkwall and perhaps even beyond against the mages cause

Mages--if they were any smart--would distance themselves from Anders, they'll never be publically accepted as long as they revere an insane abomination. Thankfully, Asunder didn't make mages go "Praise Anders".

Though it wouldn't surprise me to see stupid mages follow his example and try to become abominations, only more reason they need to be imprisoned.

True "Templar Zealots" don't make "support" threads. They instead make sure all pro-mage posters are confined to a single thread where their heresy and abominable trolling cannot endanger the rest of the forum.

"BE GONE! GO BACK TO THE TOWER THREAD, XILZHRA! THE ORDER DICTATES!"
