I.... can see that. But I also know that just because someone is terribly wrong or annoying, it doesn't necessarily follow that it makes you terribly right just for disagreeing with them.Xilizhra wrote...

These are nice but I can't back the Templar Order. While they have the right idea and Mages do need to be regulated in some form, their tactics are horrible. Tranquil is worse than death, IMO. And not allowing them to see their family and loved ones? It's too much oppression. It's no wonder somebody would rebel.
Back a scared dog in a corner long enough and he's going to bite to protect himself...

2. The Templar order definitely needs a top-to-bottom makeover. *ducks*
But some of them really have the right idea, and I don't think the entire notion needs to be thrown away. In fact, I think mages completely policing themselves is a terrible idea. It's inevitable that they would begin to forget that non-mages are just as human (or elven) and valuable as they are, the same way that non-mages have forgotten over time (by nature of being the group in power) how valuable mage life is.
But it hasn't always been so bad. In "Asunder" for example, Rhys mentions a mirror that Adrian bought him back when the mages were allowed out of the tower to visit the city. They weren't locked up 24/7 and treated like criminals-in-training. That freedom was taken away after Anders' Chantry bombing (thanks a lot, Anders).

Better if any of it was strictly true. Well, maybe the second-to-last one is, but what Justinia missed completely is that a religion with ideals can just as easily be tyranny, and she continues to be an architect of such. Also, **** the Divine.brushyourteeth wrote...

I agree on all your points. I have no problem with regulation. It's all on how they do it. Like you said, treating them ALL like criminals isn't the way to do it. Locking them into the tower or not allowing them to see their families is crazy. The problem with Templars is you have good ones who have the right idea and bad ones. It's no different from mages. Some Templars are like sociopaths and get their pleasure abusing their power. Same for mages.
I support the basic building blocks behind the ideology of the Templar Order. Not how it's currently executed in most areas though. Even in places that are loose on their chains, you still have a problem with Templars abusing their power and making mages fear them into retaliation.
And yea, that damn Anders. I let him go after all he did and even went behind my back. I still had mercy for him. Even after he stabbed me in the back. I wanted to believe I still liked Anders. Then that bastard had the audacity to challenge me right after that. Wow. I gladly stood over his corpse in the end. Kinda OT but I liked standing over anime boy's(Fenris) corpse too lol. I did not like him and how he constantly kept hitting on my PC.

Every last one of those "building blocks" is precisely what makes the Templar Order the monstrous creation that it is. You can't blame anything but deep, institutional evil on this.I support the basic building blocks behind the ideology of the Templar Order. Not how it's currently executed in most areas though. Even Tevinter uses Circles. EVEN TEVINTER. As crazy and power-hungry magisters are, even they realise the danger of all mages roaming free.
you're citing the Tevintir Imperium as an example of why we should support having circles of magi?
let me know how that works out for you.

The only thing that the Tevinter Imperium makes a case for is the complete extermination of mages. <_<

Lol... deep institutional evil? Hehe..
The Templars and Chantry are in the right, the mages aren't. It's as simple as that.
They have to be policed by an organization that's big enough, dedicated enough and has enough resoruces - and the Chantry/Templars is that organization. No other can replace it really.
Those ungratefull mages have it better than you think.

Quite well actually.
The "Hitler did X" argument never works. I heard he liked dogs. And cookies. And that he had an organized and disciplined military. Therefore all those things MUST be wrong, right?
Not to say that I blame for using such non-arguments. You got nothing left.

The templars are the best thing to ever happen in thedas. The templars keep the demonic doorways commonly referred to as mages away from actual people.Mages have proven time and time again that they don't know how to act with their curse when given the same freedom as actual people so they have to be caged like the maniacal animals they are.

This man was the best templar to ever have graced Thedas. He stands as testament as to why we should support the templars for not only do they protect stupid ugly mages from themselves and others but they also protect the common folk from dark terrors such as demons and spirits and they do not discriminate in who they save.
