I never quite got how one of the worst sci-fi series in existence became that popular. I'm hoping it's just for the ultraviolence, because the prospect of that many people being so personally unpleasant as to like the Imperium is rather depressing.
To be honest the fluff is terrible especially with that misogynic ****** of a matt ward doing the codexes . But some of the books ,especially those written by Dan Abbet, are very good. And i still consider the dawn of war series to be one of the best RTS games i ever played. Hell even the table top game is fun if god awfully pricey

Dawn of War's decent, but that strips away some of the worst aspects of the main universe.

Indeed. 40K setting is GLORIOUS. Better than ME. Better than DA. Better than baked bread.
So gloriously redicolous at one moment and utterly serious another.
Please, let us have that image... its perfect for recruitment posters.
THIS was just the beginning! The mages will not stop until every Chantry is destroyed, the worship of the Maker forbidden in favor of the Old Gods and every mundane is in chains. Join the Templars! Help us stop this evil!
A DnD Paladin? Well, it is a spell casting class, but it calls from a Divine Spell List, and they are at risk of losing their powers. They also don't suffer the same issues that Arcane magic does.
Wait, are we defining it by DnD terms or by Thedas terms? Thedas terms, they'd probably be seen as some Maker blessed Templar, just taking a look at their spell list (not too familiar with the Paladin, now Bards, on the other hand, are definitely mages).
A Paladin's abilities comes from a divine source, so no, he would not be a mage. However, in Dragon Age there is no such thing as a paladin, since there aren't any difinitive divine powers.

Well Spirit Warriors are seen as mages despite being just "blessed" Warriors.

"Yes. I believe that's what being a Templar is about."
And Women like the Fierce Knight Comander Meredith:
"I will not allow insubordination! We must stay true to our path!"
We Will Win!
Remember, if you don't wisht to join the Templars, you can always help the War Effort by buying Lyrium bonds.
As with most conflicts there are two relatively small factions with a lot of power on each side that totally lose sight of the huge mass of innocents caught in between that care little for templars or mages but just want to be left to their own devices or to be able to live a peaceful life.
After being affected by epic disasters such as the blight, the common man goes to his local tavern or more likely whispers to his friends that they should hang all mages and templars and the world would be a better place.

"Orsino: Why don't they just drown us as infants?"
The only time in history that a mage said something sensible. After earning our hard won freedom from Tevinter, we showed these cursed monstrosities every trust and leniency possible. We sheltered, fed and educated them and they repaid us with threachery and murder. Well, no more! No longer will the human race suffer under the yoke of magic. No longer will we tolerate these unholy abominations, these mistakes of the Maker who wear the face of men and women to hide amongst ourselves and spread their disease. We will suffer not a mage to live. And after the cleansing has been complete, all of Thedas will stand in awe and whisper "Thank you.".

HERESY!
Divine Justinia V was atack by a Blood Mage in one of the most important social gatherings of Orlais. The Divine was a clear sympathizer of the mage cause, to the point that her speech to the nobles of the land was about mages... Do not worry! For the great Templar Evangeline de Brassard saved her!
What will these monsters do next?! Take the White Spire?!
Join the Templars and stand Strong and Proud of defending your fellow mundanes. Be ready to face the greatest threat to Thedas since the Qunari!
