One other thing.

DA2 armour didn't have huge shoulders. That is an advance.

I thought the huge pauldrons looked pretty cool. They were still in DA2 btw.

In my opinion a dude decked out in heavy plate in DA:O just looked far more believable to me than the Champion armour in DA2.

I really hated the huge pauldrons during Alistair's big pre-battle speech, because he looked directly into the one on his left shoulder when ordering the troops to charge.

He was wearing Cailan's armor, incidentally.

Hang on. Practical armor looks cooler because of itself? What?

Let me put it this way: Something well made is more awesome than something poorly made. Well, either that, or I've adapted my sight to look at the real value of things rather than how shiny they are.

Either explanation works for me, take your pick.

I know some people think that generic (whatever that means) = bad. But to me this looks 1000x better, more practical, and yes, cooler, than any stylised armor in DA2.

There's King Cailan's armour in the Black Emporium, but otherwise they're a lot smaller.

Also, DA2 armour was not just the Champion armour.

I am not a fan of the more "traditional", imo plain and boring armor. Its a fantasy game and I like slightly over the top, slightly exaggerated fantasy style armor. I enjoyed the "spikes"

Like with everything else, I am a big fan of diversity in armor models. I thought DA 2 had a nice mix, though I wish for the "epic," end-game armors there had been more customization.

Being able to tone down the spikes while still keeping the crazy colors, or doing away with the crazy colors and keeping the spikes (or doing away with both!) would be awesome.

It's a fantasy game which changed a set style.  Do you really need to have it explained to you why this is a bad thing for any series to do?

dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Item_sets_(Dragon_Age_II) there is a link of the armor sets. Tell, how much of a spiky mess are all those armors are besides the champion set that was listed as an example.

Less spikes please..

Do not want a perfect copie of some real life medieval armor but some realism would be much appriciated. No 'shoulderpads' that have spiky things sticking out that have no protective value and just look....weird Image IPB

While I'd like to have less spikes on the armours, the DAO armour style wasn't realistic to begin with.

Is that really all the armor in the game?  I really hope we can do better than that in the DA3.  (And from Gaider's blog about armor, I think we shall)

EDIT:

Oh..not even remotely close to all the armor in the game.  What's up, how about full disclosure?  There's spiky armor aplenty http://dragonage.wik...(Dragon_Age_II)

I think if they stick to their armour customization concept, it could turn out really good because they look badass right now. But I would prefer more 'grounded' looking armour sets, like the Kirkwall guard armour type for heavier armour.

No, it is not all of them and it also does not show the dlc armor packs, but even still, it shows people are only talking about the champion armor set, and I have no idea how one armor set means all the armors in DA2 are spiky.

I don't really care about realism or functionality. It shouldn't be completely absurd but mostly I just want it to look nice and if possible, unique. How they do it is up to them, I don't mind the spikes. Too much emphasis on realism or functionality and you get a bunch of generic and boring looking armors. We're killing dragons and throwing fireballs left and right. I'd rather do it in style.

I for one loved the rogue outfits for both Hawke and Isabela. Isabela's outfit looked both rogue and pirate like. I thought it was a nice change compared to the usual run of the mill, generic and rather boring looking full leather rogue outfits.

Who knows?  The majority of the armor listed on that site doesn't seem to have images attached. Not really good enough to prove one way or the other.  We know that there are at least 2 suits of heavy armor with superfluous spikes, at least 1 light armor with superfluous spikes, and at least one medium armor with superfluous spikes.  And it seems to me the OP's point extends far beyond just spikes, but rather the practical nature of armor in general.

Isabella was a joke.  The concept art for DA3 we've seen hopefully means that won't be repeated.  Points for being original, but come on...that was just outrageous.

There is a reason why real medieval armor did not have any spikes.
