I know a lot of people didn't like the elves, or the cartoony look. However much I hated the cartoony look as the extreme response to 50 Shades of Brown, I did like the redesign of the elves, as well as the other races. They looked like a separate "race" instead of pointy eared humans. I think they wanted to be like DA2 anyway, but helmets.

I even use a mod that makes the DAO elves look like the DA2 elves, and I love the change.

Anyone else in favor of keeping the "new elf" model, even if the "look" of the overall game changes (which I hope it does)?

Yes, there are people in favour of keeping the new elves. There are also people who want the ones from Origins back. There are also people who prefer neither.

As long as they put on some goddamn shoes, they can look however they want.

I am all forth a new looking elves, I personally like the new look for elves in DA2, and I played for console so I couldn't add a mod for the elves. I just want them to me more different looking then humans. And if they add the ascents to the elves again, even better.

I personally liked the re-design. As another poster mentioned it made them look more distinct from humans, beyond the pointy ears.

Way to use the worst possible example of DA2 elves there, lol.

That's a slave elf on the picture. Slaves aren't usually chubby.
And about anorexic part:
Face looks like that because of the big eyes
Frame is... If the Dalish elves in DA3 will look a bit/even more athletic , then I think DA2's version for the City elves is logically correct (small meals, sicknesses, hard labor).

Or did I miss something and we were supposed to think that City Elves look pretty?

I liked their redesign. Orana is just an ugly elf period. Besides, if they all act as stupid as the Dalish did in DA2, there won't be any elves left before too long to worry about it.

I have no problem with the facial redesign that elves underwent, I actually think their facial structure can be utilized to create good looking elves, as well as bad looking elves, and it makes them look perfectly unique and exotic...

I have a *big* problem with the fact that Elven bodies were reduced to twigs. Elves are supposed to be lean, certainly not have too much bulk on them, but honestly... I cannot deal with the breakable physique that was introduced in Dragon Age 2.

Elves are used for Manual Labour and general Servitude, they wouldn't be left to starve unless they had outlived their usefulness or were planned for ritual sacrifice (Looking at you Tevinter). Those that work for wage would certainly not appear on the point of starvation.

The Dalish, as well, shouldn't appear so waif-like. They're the greatest hunters in Thedas, so renown in their ability that Human society still fears them. Their physique should be lean but it should also appear deadly and powerful.

The physique for Elves is just... It's.... It's silly...

In my opinion, the faces are fine. The bodies are not.

This is truth.

My biggest problem with the new elves is that the new look needs attention given to each character model, because randomizing the features often leads to unfortunate souls like Orana.  Merrill and Fenris look good, and there are a select few others like Athenril who stand out as relatively attractive, but a lot of the other NPC elves either look exactly alike each other, or weird.

Here's the problem I have with the old elves: you couldn't tell that some of them were elves if they wore their hair long. I can't tell whether the main character in the City Elf trailer is supposed to be an elf or just a short human, let alone her bridesmaids.

It's not perfect. The new design  does have a bit of an Uncanny Valley thing going on and is generally more forgiving towards women than men. But it's still a better visual identity than we had before.

The larger ears and eyes are fine to me. It's the nose ridge and freakishly narrow faces that need to change. It should be noted that the elves that we're supposed to find attractive or appealing have much more human features than the other elves. Merrill, Fenris and Tallis all have smaller eyes, smaller nose ridges, wider faces, and/or smaller ears. It seems to me that even Bioware recognized that the elves in DA2 were a bit ugly.

More elves that look like Merrill or Athenril.

Less elves that look like DA2 Zevran.

I'm all for making the elves unique, I just think they went too far on many of the elves.
I liked Merrill and some others, but I hated most of them.

I prefer the elves' look from Origins, personally, but I don't see Bioware going back on their redesign. I think the elves from DA2 look like rejects from 'A Bug's Life'.

You're not really going to get them much support by calling them "anorexic."

Anyway, I don't mind either design. Frankly, I'd prefer the DA2 concept art kind of elf.

I didn't like the elves in DA:O or DA2. In the first, they looked incredibly generic and bland. Baiscally small humans with pointy ears. In the second, they look like some weird creature in cyptozoology. Image IPB

I downloaded a mod (tmp? I forgot....) that made my elf look like this. Had weird nose ridge, large eyes, pointy ears, on the anorexic side, but still did not look like a gremlin.

I *think* it was the art stylet hat contributed to such horrors as Orana. And the modding community fixed her too, she looks much better in my game without the clown paint.

That's why I'm for this. I wanted my elves to look different than humans, I liked the ideas Bioware came up with, and I saw a modder do it right.

EDIT: Was not thinking of engine (Frostbite or whatever, that has nothing to do with art)

I think the change was too drastic and not for the better. The DA2 elves somehow looked like me as if Mr. Spocks alien-pet-chipmunk had been raped by a drunken lewd hobbit...no wonder Arlathan fell...

Personally I would prefer something like in the picture further down. Somehow I think it would add even more to the tragic that the elves have to suffer in ghettos, viewd as inferior (and hated for the strange, inhuman beauty) if they looked a little more serious, yet still not like pointy-eared humans...

Just my opinion though...:)

I'm not sure I want another "Tolkien" elf model though. That has been WAY, WAY overdone. Maybe that is why I liked them so thin and frail looking. I mean, they have been slaves for millennia, right? And our human supermodels basically have the same BMI but are much taller, and they look pretty alien to me.

I really liked the DA2 elves. They had some interesting unique ethnic features and didn't simply resemble humans with pointy ears. The character model for Merrill was beautifully done.

In my view, your second pic looks much better than the first.

While I think the second elf looks horrible, I don't think it's fair to use a modded character, just how it's not fair to do the Shianni/Orana comparison.
