While I think the second elf looks horrible, I don't think it's fair to use a modded character, just how it's not fair to do the Shianni/Orana comparison.
I wasn't aware that image was from a mod.
I think the vanilla companion elf character from DA:O Velanna also looked like a human with pointy ears compared to Merrill, for example, who had some interesting racial features. After all, I take it elves are intended to be an entirely different species, and it's a bit refreshing to see something a little different from generic representations of elves in other games.

I suppose for the look of the Felicia Day character; however, they had to go back to a human with pointy ears, because she was supposed to resemble the actress.

maybe the half elves should look like the ones in origin and full blooded elves should stay like they are in DA2 then everyone is happycoles4971 wrote...
Yes, there are people in favour of keeping the new elves. There are also people who want the ones from Origins back. There are also people who prefer neither.

Quoted, bolded, underlined and reddened for truth. Using "anorexic" as a term to mean "thin" or "emaciated" is extremely insulting. Imagine if every overweight person was called diabetic or morbidly obese. Even then it's not the same - try calling every overweight person a chronic overeater.Alexandrine Delassixe wrote...

This. Just put more time into the generic models and we are set.mousestalker wrote...
Merrill is the example of the DA2 elf done right. I love the idea of a distinctive elven look. The problem is that elves are supposed, per the game itself, to be attractive and too many of the DA2 variety weren't.

I would like to see them generally nudged a little closer to the human norm, without abandoning their distinctive traits entirely. Many of the traits were in fact less extreme on the more important elf NPCs than with the minor ones.

You are putting your own words in the OP's mouth here -- there's not a single statement there that could be interpreted as the author thinking (or claiming) that "anorexic means thin or emaciated".Eyil wrote...

They are simply calling a spade a spade -- the body proportions of DA2 elf model are close match for proportions of anorexic human.

Except anorexic people can be of any size. Anorexia is not a body size, it's an eating disorder. Plus, they look plenty healthy to me. As a bony, thin person myself, I can tell you that extremely insulting and just plain stupid to misuse anorexic in such a way.tmp7704 wrote...

Slender =/= anorexic
Anorexia is defined as a fear of eating. Anorexia is not a body type. Some slender people can eat all they want yet are still called anorexic by ignorant people. This is also drawing attention away from those who are actually anorexic and are in need of help, not generalizations and ridicule.
You are part of the problem.

P.S. Fun fact. Just for fun I entered anorexic elf in google and dragon age images were on 2nd page.
Crack is a hell of a drug.
Seriously though, I liked the concept of BioWare wanting to distinguish elves from humans. They are a separate race they deserve to look like their own race instead of small humans with pointy ears. I would like to see the concept developed more than it was DA2, but honestly I think it is just a matter of polygon count. Fenris and Merrill look great, most other elves (like the one above) did not get that same treatement and ended up looking alien in a bad way.

Could you reword the topic, OP?
@Eyil Yup. What I don't understand is why slight acquaintances ask this and think they might get a "yes" answer. Even if I were, why would I tell you?

http://www.google.co...define anorexic
an·o·rex·ic
adjective /ˌanəˈreksik/
1. Relating to, characterized by, or suffering from anorexia
2. Extremely thin
The word is recognized to have two different, common meanings. The OP is using the second meaning.
You are essentially arguing that someone who says "That's right" is using languange incorrectly because "right" is used to describe a direction.
Then why are you arguing that the OP meant to say the new elves look is "emaciated"? If you truly believe that's what a "plenty healthy" person looks like, that association shouldn't have occured to you at all, no?Plus, they look plenty healthy to me.

And I'm not saying that I think they look emaciated. I'm saying that if the OP thinks that they look emaciated, then they should bleeding well use the word emaciated.

As for cherry picking, you'd have to elaborate on it. I really can't read people's minds.
