I support Duncan's return, if it's in the form of a bard holding a bone white skull with a broom glued to the jawbone, the teeth clicking as he moves it, all the while pretending to give you quests.

That actually works for me. Especially if the quest giver uses archaic language in so doing.

but what about the earring n ponytail???

I hope he stays dead, I never felt much for his character, never really liked him, and always smile when he meets his end in the cutscenes. I am not kidding. I am glad he dies early, and I love to perform/let perform that Dark Ritual, just because I really like the idea that Duncan would never approve of it...it is like a middle finger in his face to survive and get the Love and kingdom in the end...Right of consription, yeah sure, my a....

More like -100.

Besides, in Duncans shoes, I would have done the same thing.

Otherwise, yeah I have played quite few times, my dwarven characters were something like deal with fact to become a warden cutting their path thru darkspawns, mages, templars...
My elf characters felt betrayal and harm. either cut out of their clan forced to walk among the humans or facing the racism in town allienage, facing to so called justice only because she did right thing ...
And my Nobles were always driven in ligh path of retribution :)

Do you remember that ancient darkspawn from Deep roads or the tainted warden from Legacy ? If the Duncan would return as changed and already tainted - well it would be interesting :pinched:

Can we not please? I know, for what he did he got off kinda easy - but bringing Duncan back after ten years to inflict righteous punishment in the dungeons of the inquisition seems a little excessive.

The only reason I would ever hope they bring Duncan back is so I can kill that ******* myself. Seriously I started the game enjoyed the Origin (Was a mage I think) then at the Grey Warden trial I was so utterly pissed off I didnt have the option to kill him I quit the game and returned it. Later I played the demo for DA2 and got pulled back into franchise (I love Sarcastic Hawke so much) but getting though the opening of DA:O is a complete chore thanks to Duncan. I wish they had given him an agonizing slow death in graphic detail. I know some people think he was an okay guy who was just a bit to much in "The ends justifiy the means camp" but to me he just really really rubbed me the wrong way.

^ Gaider's going to lock this. He locks all return of duncan threads because he says duncan will never return. Just a heads up.

I love that Alistair then goes on to blame Loghain for 'killing Duncan'.

You chopped Lelianas head off? I think she should give us an explanation for that in DA3 if we went down that road. My bet is on space magic.

It'd be pretty cool to see Duncan return as the Grey Warden party member. A mentor to the PC like Wynne was to the Warden, just less annoying.

Thoughts?

They should bring back Alistair too then, they could have some kind of reunion in-game and have a running joke about how much Alistair missed him. It would be a welcome throw back to origins.

Obviously it would be cool to see Duncan in some sort of cameo, if for no other reason than his voice was so heroic, it was just awesome, and I'd love to hear it again. I can't see a reason not to bring him back unless the guy who did his voice retired or died or something, if that happened then yes, leave him the way he is. He never really died on-screen, in fact all signs pointed to him still being alive and out there somewhere, so if you didn't read the comments from David Gaider himself saying that Duncan was dead, you'd never believe it. In that sense, Duncan will always live on :) .

I like Duncan. I hated him when he conscripted my Dalish elf when she really wanted to look for Tamlen.
BUT.
After reading "The Calling" I love Duncan and wish we had more time to interact with him when we were heading to Ostagar.
It would be cool if he was alive and was in DA3 but his calling was near and didn't have much time or the darkspawn killed him.

I have an idea; bring him back like one of the heads in jars from Futurama. As a side quest he wants you to retrieve his body from Ostagar where he got beheaded.
