Don't mind me, I'm just getting ready for Dragon Age 3.

How about this: It's called Dragon Age III: Inquisitor. Maybe a vow of celibacy is required!!! maybe that could be an integral part of the plot! Maybe the protagonist ~does~love someone, but is forever barred from approaching him or her, because of religious demands?
But noooo..... we ~have~ to have romance, to the degree where the rest of the plot will have to give way for the demands from dissatisfied geeks who'd probably write hatemails to Tolkien, were he still alive, about Aragorn turning down Eowyn.
Actually... that is a pretty inspired idea, if you ask me. Make our character take a vow of celibacy and see how that colors our relationships. Breaking said vow would run the risk of being caught and lowering your faction rating, etc. That would be a heck of a way to influence the story.

I love the story and romances can make the story better depending on who you romance. It did in DAO anyway.

I agree with another poster, just forget all the combat and make it a dating sim. Hell make everyone bisexual too, and let's cater to the need of those that love animals and get a lioness/lion for romance options. After all, all this spells, swords, killing monsters, looting, exploring and discovering just takes away from the game right? Namely humping anything that moves.

It's easier to talk specifically about the former. With the latter, all you can really do is complain about previous games and say that DA3 should be better.M25105 wrote...
Maybe a bit too far, but sometimes I wonder whether people actually care more about romance options for Dragon Age 3, then actual changes/improvement in the game and the overall atmosphere.
Also, I'm getting some serious "No fun allowed" vibes from the anti-romance brigade.

BioWare are good at romances. Why should they tone them down? It's like telling CDPR to tone down on the big choices; or Chris Avellon to stop writing.
Of all the writers to choose from, you had to pick the one that has publicly stated his hatred of romances? Bit ironic for this thread, don't ya think? <_<

I've been hearing this a lot. I've known Chris Avellon to say he personally prefers "tragic romances" over the "happily ever after" type (a preference I share personally), but I've never known him to say with 100% conviction that he hates all romantic sub-plots.Of all the writers to choose from, you had to pick the one that has publicly stated his hatred of romances?
Can someone *finally* give me a link to confirm his hatred of romances?

But there's no need to fret. If Chris Avellone has expressed a distate for romances, then I dare say they'll be given to someone else.
Personally, I'd like to see Hepler do some again. I think she handled Anders very well.

^ Agreed. Ever since he massacred the romance in Kotor 2, I've wanted nothing to do with anything he writes.

Considering that "Planescape: Torment" was born of Chris's hatred of fantasy tropes, I'd personally really like to see what could come of his hatred of romances. I say inundate the Project Eternity threads with romance requests until he succumbs and writes it personally, smoldering with hate the entire time.
It'll be brilliant.

It's not much of a romance if someone gets violently killed since a romance usually involves two people.

But not at the expense of the plotline. I would love the romances to somehow tie better into the plotline however. That's probably tricky to do though.

Something that I, personally, agree with.
He doesn't once say, in that interview (or any interview that i'm aware of), that he "hates romantic content" for computer games. He just doesn't support the BSN's idealistic view of fantasy romance.
