So long as its not some forced mating ritual like Synthesis in ME3.
I agree, believe it or not. Synthesis was just a poorly implemented.
But anyway, back on topic.
What kind of factions do we all want? Obviously we need a Warriors Guild, League of Assassins, etc. But what else? Let's give Bioware some ideas.

I think in the case of the Orlesian Civil War, we could have three factions: Loyalists, Rebels and a neutral faction (like a mercenary company making money selling arms and men to either side).
In the Mage/Templar conflict; we could be looking at Mage Extremists, Templar Witchunters and a neutral middle faction fighting for peaceful co-existance,
Then we could have extraneous factions like an Assassin's Guild who issue targets etc.

I don't know, I'm on the fence about joining factions in a DA game.
DAO didn't have it- siding with the werewolves didn't turn you into one, nor did siding with the elves make you one of them.
Neither did DA2. So I'm unsure of how Bioware writing would handle actual factions you can join and take part in quests of.
I felt Bethesda did a good job with them in Skyrim, but I don't think that style of faction would make sense in DA. Especially since you have companions, a squad that follows you everywhere.
I think there are definitely going to be various factions in the game, as there are always various factions in any interesting story involving multiple groups of people.
Even if we don't necessarily have the option of "joining" all these different group or becoming an important member, it's still important to consider how they will react to your choices throughout the game. The more reactive the better, for example, wouldn't you prefer it if the templars begin to treat you differently because you are have been associating with some faction of blood mages and doing quests for them, etc.?
Even in DA:O, there were lots of factions, not only the Wardens, Templars, Chantry and Apostates, but various groups in Denerim, and other locations, the City Elves of the Alienage, the Dalish vs. the Werewolves, House Aeducan, House Harrowmount, the Dwarves of Dust Town, etc.
The more interesting factions the devs can weave into the story, the better. The more reactive these groups are to the player's choices through the game, the more RP options you have to play a certain kind of character who allies with certain groups, for example, or hates other groups. It can be so much more interesting than just "Faction X now has red circles under all the character models, so they are enemies."
And if you have the option to fully commit to one side or another among a couple of factions that are in conflict, or if you can increase your reputation with a particular group, or even be treated as a loyal member after completing a certain questline, etc., even better. This all adds a lot to the replay value.

I like the idea of factions. More so because I honestly don't give a wooden nickle about the Mage/Templar squabble. As far as I'm concerned they both need a good thrashing and sent to stand in the corner.
Some of us agree.

If as seems likely the protagonist of DA3 is an Inquisitor and/or leader of the Inquisition it's doubtful that joining other factions will be in the game. It makes as little sense as the Warden (or any warden) joining the Templars.
We don't know yet if he/she will be one. But it still wouldn't hurt to have this topic up for Bioware to look through.

I would love to see an assassin's guild in this game. Maybe not to the level that we have a separate storyline for it (or any faction/guild), but it could be cool see it have an influence in quests and character interactions.
Something like the Crows side quests would be good, only more fleshed out....also liked the robbery and pickpocketing quests you get from that guy.....slim.

I love factions. Especially factions that are exclusive and lock you out from doing quests from the other. Having the exact same quests every time you play through a game is boring all get out.
I'm guessing if you join the Templars or Mages you would be locked out from the other. If you don't join either, as some of us want, we can join other factions that help bring the war to an end.

Yes, it would certainly add to the replay value.
It would be great if there are perhaps some smaller quest lines that are only unlocked if you have a very high (or very low) reputation with a particular faction, possibly resulting in unique rewards. Not just mages vs. templars, but I'm talking about any of the numerous NPC groups that will be in the game world.
