I would love love love to have him back, especially as a LI. However, I would like him to look similar to DAA Nathaniel rather than DA2 Nathaniel.

I'm in total agreement with you!

I believe the only companion that made it into DA2 unscathed was Leliana and maybe Anders(although I think he looked better in Awakening). Everybody else looked odd or just downright hideous(Zevran, Alistair). I find it funny how they made Isabela and Merril look better than their DAO counterparts, but then the others get hit with the ugly stick. <_<

Is that Arl Howe's son? I didn't play Awakening.

@EpicBoot - Yes, he is the Arl's son, but he's not like his dirtbag of a father.

I don't know...

I liked Nathaniel in Awakening, but then again, I also liked Anders and Justice. I didn't care for the 180 degree character turns of DA2. If he comes back as Nathaniel and not some brooding darkspawn named Nate Howe who survives on elf blood, bring it on.

I tihnk you're projecting a bit here I didn't think there was a huge change to his character, at least nothing that couldn't be explained by being a grey warden for a few years.

We can agree to disagree.

He's very dead...

At least, he's dead in every single one of my games, and not on purpose either.

Hmm.

I didn't find him very compelling, to be honest. He did show growth (inb4lewdjoke), and he did reject his satanic father, but there isn't a lot else to fill in his character with. He was basically a completely run of the mill young nobleman who preferred boring knickknacks (not even kitschy or flamboyant ones like Sigrun or Anders respectively, which added to the humor, grounding and humanization of their personalities). I also can't even remember whether he has a personal quest, so it was likely perfunctory and uninspired (like all the companion quests in DAA) or bugged in my playthrough and didn't even show up (like most of DAA writ large).

Sigrun I liked a lot, and Velanna the maniac with too much power would be a hoot to see return, so that would be cool. Anders and Justice fused obviously, I forget what happened to Oghren but I think his moment has passed other than to perhaps be a quest-giver and random NPC at a Fereldan pub. Nathaniel I wouldn't outright object to as a companion and LI, but he would have to have a lot more writing and attention paid to who he exactly is if it's going to work.

I should also note that I didn't find him attractive, so if I had found him a stone cold fox I might think differently. lol

Good to know you kill people based on their name.

I guess you didn't play the human noble origins story then.

He had nothing to do with it, i think he was in Kirkwall at the time if i remember correctly. So you would still be killing him based on a name.

Which is fine, ive made a few characters that ive roleplayed as unreasonable dicks

So you would still be killing him based on a name.

Or... Ya know, the fact that he openly admits he wants to murder you.

Sure, he doesn't do it, but Cousland doesn't know that.

I'm pretty sure, when I initially intended to release him, he said he would return... To kill me.

It's been a while since I played, however, so I could be wrong.

He said he might come back to kill you. ;)

He has every right to be upset at the beginning. He didn't know that his father had become a jealous freak that only wanted what he thought was owed him. Nate was away in the Free Marches when that happened so he was still in the mindset that his father was an honorable man.

Poor Nate. So misunderstood.:(

As long as he remains the same lovable grump that he was in DA:A, I wouldn't mind having him back! <3

I think Nate is often misunderstood. In my playthroughs of Awakening I always had him with me. When I first saw him I thought intriquing that he admitted to wanting to kill for revenge, but as he got closer he realized that what he really wanted was to reclaim some family heirlooms...namely his grandfather's bow which you find out later. I liked that he didn't respond to fancy gifts instead opting for more practical ones...a testament to his modesty. And I was touched when he was reunited with his sister (ahem...to the person not sure if he had a pesronal quest...he did). Overall what he wanted was to restore his family name (the statue convo in Ameranthine)....and get past the whole "sins of the father" stigma he was living. I thought of the companions for Awakening his was the most complex and interesting...and if he does return I would like to see just how successful he was at restoring his family's lost honor because I think he of all people had the ability to do it and the perseverence to achieve it. Just my opinion anyway.

Same here, its all pretty hazy for me....thinking about it, you might be right....when you ask him what he will do if released he says he will come back and kill me. Kind of condradicts his comment "I came here to kill you, but then decided all i wanted was my belongings" paraphrasing of course. I will probaley boot it up at some point to confirm, talking about the games on here always give me an urge to do yet another playthrough.
