Oh, Nathaniel Howe. More than any other character from Origins, Awakening or Dragon Age II, I want Nathaniel back.

I just can't imagine him as a companion. Though I've proven particularly bad at guessing who will and won't be returning, and in what capacity, so I'll just hope I'm wrong. Really, really wrong.

I liked Nate he was my buddy and redeemed the howe name in my eyes. my warden was human noble and personally killed his father. after we talked it out he actually ended up becoming my wardens closest friend.

i seriously hope we do get nathaniel in da3 in some capacity, and the grey warden/seeker possible companion thing that got a little hint at pax a while ago kind of might imply it's possible it might be him, or it might just be wishful thinking on my part, but omg if we do get him, its a guarenteed pre order for me, and if cullen returns too then i'm throwing a party :)

I don't know how people can compare him to Rendon Howe. He actually prefers all the "good/nice choices" in the game. However, the leak suggest we already have an archer.

Edit: Oh and those Couslands still on about "Kill all Howes", you forgot to kill Nathaniels sister or does she get a free pass for some reason?

see i dont get why people would want to kill an entire family over a name, just because 1 of them was an evil **** why should the family suffer for the fathers mistakes, and doesnt that make people no better than arl howe, believe me i kill that scumbag and enjoy doing so, but i dont hate his whole family just because he was a jerk, delilah and nate are both generally good people, and i only wish we got to meet thomas too i'd imagine he was just as nice a person aswell, besides the howe family already suffered enough because of arl howe, they lost everything and 2 of them died because of poverty if i remember correctly, so why punish them more just out of hate for 1 man

Poor Nate. So misunderstood.

He's not misunderstood - Not by me at least. I know he can be persuaded to join the Wardens and save the day etcetc..

The problem is, Cousland isn't aware that Nate is going to have a change of heart, so her decision was based entirely on the threat that Nate posed to her safety. She was a cautious person, and she wasn't sure she wanted to release a man that openly admitted he planned to kill her, and might still do it in the future.

It's hardly a misunderstanding on Cousland's part. It was a hard decision, but she believed Nate wasn't worth the risk.

I like Nate as a character, he kind of blended into the background sometimes but when I paid attention he was relatively compelling. However, he's dead in about 4 of my play-throughs. Either died in the epilogue or executed by my Warden.

I understand what you're saying. I guess it's just because of the way I play that I see giving him a chance is better than outright killing him. Maybe I'm too softhearted? I'm not sure. All I know is that I can never kill him and he is always in my group. I have never managed to play through either the ME series or the DA games being mean. I've tried, but it never works out. I always end up feeling bad. :(

The whole thing about him being dead in your epilogue is not a big deal. Anders came back too after being "dead".

Edited because I did do one thing "bad" that made me feel horrible. I let Loghain live in one of my DAO runs and hurt Alistair(my LI). I felt absolutely horrid about hurting him and him leaving because of my choice. Although, because of that, I was able to get to know Loghain(<3).

Maybe there is something to this whole being evil thing....

Meh. He had his time in Awakening. I don't want to see him as a teammate again.

No, he was a waste of potential and only relevant and interesting in the warden storyline.

My Cousland always let him live too.    Once she learned he was living in the Free Marches for 8 years, she couldn't kill him.

In my head canon, my Cousland finds Rendon's journal which has an entry that says he sent Nathaniel away because he knew his son would not approve of his plans.

I hope i don't see him at all. The world is supposed to be huge, how the hell do I keep running into the same guys over and over?

Maybe his nephew will be a companion? It would be feasible if DA3 took place five years or so after DA2~

I wish he was in DA2, but honestly...with him possibly dying in Awakening i can either see him being brought back to life (Which fans have not liked Bioware doing previously) or make him very temporary . Maybe they might pull it off with an expansion character though, since not a huge amount would be pulling saves from it compared to a main release.

Rumor has it, it was originally supposed to be Howe and not Sebastian.  But it scrapped because "he could be dead."  If it's true, what a wasted oppurtunity.  Think of having Howe there when Anders succumbed to Justice.  It would have added a lot more having someone who knew him.The bane of the save import.  (Although it didn't affect whether Anders was alive or dead....)

BTW, I'm on board for Howe returning.  He was a lot more interesting than I would have ever thought.

Truth:  Dragon's Age appeal comes from love of these characters and the world they live in.  In a way, they're actually more pivotal to the series than Hawke or the Warden.  It's why I like it.  You know why people bought Gaider's comic and novels?  Shale, Isabella, Varric, Wynne, Alistar, Maric, Logain, Duncan.  You take them away, no would care.  Howe may not be in the same light as them, but he obviously has a fan club.

Well, Zevran is from Antiva and trying to run the Crows.  The idea of seeing him again isn't that hard to believe.  Leliana works for the Divine.  Alistar is King or a Warden Comander.  Morrigan and Flemeth are the key to this series, and Flemeth is in the middle of great uprising.  Maric, Warden, Alistar, Hawke.

As for Howe, he's a Grey Warden. So is Ohgren.  Merrill is a Dalish elf who travels.  Isabella is a captain of a ship and gets around.  Aveline and and Varric would be a little weird, unless both relocate to Orlais.  Which is feasible.

Not saying I don't want to see some new characters.  I love new characters.  But having old companions show up, maybe not in the same role, but as important NPCs to the plot?  Why not?

@nedpepper - I agree with you about the appeal of DA characters.

Bioware just has a knack for making characters that we either love or love to hate. If they didn't do such a fantastic job at creating them, we wouldn't care whether or not they were in the next game. We also wouldn't have the forums full of love/hate threads about certain characters either.

I'm with Nashimura on this one. I would love to have him as a companion/LI in DA3:I, but with him possibly being dead I don't know how they could work him into the game.

As long as they don't look like they did in DA2, I'm fine with this. Both Zevran and Alistair looked like they had been hit with the ugly stick a few times. Well, maybe more than a few times in Zevran's case. :(

Nathaniel Howe was an interesting character with a great sense of humor once you talked to him. Having Nate, Sigrun and Anders in the party at all times was enormously enjoyable. Plus Nate has a VERY nice voice that can make fangirls swoon.

I can't seem to find the link, but I believe Gaider said that the Nathaniel idea was never seriously considered and mostly the result of throwing ideas around while the game was still in development. I could be wrong, of course!

I'm no hater -- actually, I quite like Nate. But I wonder how on earth this thread is allowed to exist when the one that was made about Cullen possibly being in the next game was shut down for being about a non-confirmed DA companion?

I would love this. There's another thread that's something like, "What's your impossible want for DAIII" and I said Nathaniel Howe as a LI.

*Le sigh*

Actually, I wish they would go back and make him a LI in Awakening. I've headcannoned his character so much, I can only see him with my femCousland.
