I was thinking about this concept today, We only have one variation of a pet and that is the Mabari. It would be great if someone adept in the woods would have something like a wolf or something else.
A ranger class, I like ranger classes.

A hawk then? Or a carrier pigeon! To send important Inquisitor messages! Or maybe a carrier kitty you can play as in a mini-game to jump around buildings like Mirror's Edge.

Or some choices. Dog, cat, bird... or some neat magical familiars for mages? Ser Pounce that can morph into an abomin.... ahem.... tiger. :-P Yeah, just make them pets with a few features and forget about doing lots of dialogue/interactions with them.

Personally, I'm all in favor of having a ferret with goggles who can sell my loot a la Torchlight II (and who can cast whatever spells I choose to teach it).

He's cunning, stealthy and has nine lives!

(one of my kitties, she's feisty)
If the Inquisitor is having to travel around Thedas then wouldn't the 'pet' need to travel with them, as a companion? Taking up a party slot? Would have to be quite an interesting pet I think. I did like how the Mabari in DAO could 'fetch' the warden items at various locations.

i would like a cat that's bigger that a house pet but small then a Mabari that fights like a rogue
I agree. I still say it would be pretty neat if Orlais had a breed of magically intelligent and powerful cats the way Fereldan has its breed of magically intelligent and powerful dogs. (Kind of drive home the "cat-lovers" versus "dog lovers" dynamic the two countries have going on.)

Do you mean like a larger pet we'd use in combat or something smaller(like a kitty) that we could keep in our base? I'd really like the interaction between you and your pet outside of combat to be expanded upon. Like maybe we could play with them. That'd be cool.
Yeah, like the stick gift to Dog from Origins. I do want a pet again, but not as a summon like Bioware did in DA2.
Exactly. I loved my mabari in DAO. His interactions with my companions were pretty hilarious at certain points. Pissed me off he was just a summon in DA2, and a pretty crappy one at that. I know that the dog in DAO took up a party slot. But lets face it, he was a beast(no pun intended)! It was totally worth it.

I wouldn't want a rat IRL , and i have no idea why, but I think a hero with a rat is just really cool.
