The Silent Grove/Those Who Speak and their influence on Dragon Age III

- King Maric is possibly still alive and at the mercy of a Tevinter Dragon Cult. (If Aurelian Titus gets one up over Alistair in Issue #3, he could possibly be a big villain in DAIII. This also gives way for establishing an Alistair presence in DAIII. In any of his fates, except for his execution and archdemon death, he could be a prisoner of Titus' for you to rescue.)
- Flemeth is behind the return of the Dragons (Maybe she IS a Dragon. Just a mage equivalent.)
- Sten is the new Arishok (He's a good guy, so he might make the Qunari a good faction to side with later on)
- Isabela is hiding something big from Alistair(maybe she was the one who captured Maric for Claudio and Aurelian)
- Varric keeps hanging with Isabela (That bastard! He's cheating on Bianca)

Yeah, remember in The Stolen Throne when Maric made a promise to Flemeth when she saved his life?
Turns out, that promise was to go to Antiva and seek out Flemeth's daughter, Yavana, after his children were grown, and allow her to use his blood to revive dead dragons(the chapter in TST paired with TSG implies she took some of his blood back then as a forward payment, hence how the age is called Dragon Age.)
But before they could revive the last of the "Great Ones," Maric was kidnapped by the Crow Prince, Claudio Valisti, and sold to Magister Aurelian Titus, who apparently runs a Dragon Cult in Seheron.
Now Alistair is traveling with Varric and Isabela to find him. The reason for Izzy is because Claudio was an old business associate of her dead husband, Luis(And it turns out Isabela really did hire Zevran to kill him.) and Varric is there simply because he's traveling with Isabela after what happened in Kirkwall.
So yeah, we might have Maric in DA3, provided the vampires haven't sucked him dry.(Might be why they want Alistair)

Well some things revealed in TSG, when paired with other known facts about DA, does give it a kind of Fire Emblemey feel(at least The Sword of Seals(Roy's game) and The Blazing Sword(The first game released in the US)
Although I'd probably put Flemeth more as Sendu from Jackie Chan Adventures than a Manakete. Shendu was a dragon demon sorcerer who had several powers, one of which was shapeshifting.

My understanding is that the back story of the comics is canon (For example, Maric is in a dungeon somewhere).
But the specific events of the comics (Alistair and Varric and Isabella travelling together) is not.
I don't know. It's all very confusing.

Q: Alistair? Is a canon being chosen for the comic? (ie drunk, king, or warden Alistair?)
A: There will be a canon, yes. King, specifically. If that doesn't match your world consider it a "What If?"

Exactly. Like the books, the events of the comics only occur in a certain continuity.

Making a cannon charather is always easy, just make a good and fair hero and its most likely to be cannon,it's always like that, they never make a canon with the bad or neutral choices, trust me...
Who is "They"? If you mean Bioware, I would disagree. Their characters are often tragic, and even when they are not, they have enough depth that you can take a morality argument either way.

Yay, another Fire Emblem fan! I see what you mean with her being more like Sendu, but when i read the comic and it showed the scene with the dragons an twisting sky, I couldn't help but think about the Scouring intro in The Blazing Sword. The Grey Nayr wrote...

Short answer: No.
Long answer: It's complicated. In Issue 2, for example, Isabela reveals why she stole the Tome of Koslun. That's probably going to be the case no matter what you decided in your import. So that's information that the comics reveal that enrich the world and that you can count on.
Other things could still feed into the game. Aurelius Titus wants a member of Alistair's bloodline. Let's say Alistair is king. Well, maybe it's the search for Maric that causes him to meet Aurelius. Let's say Alistair is a washed-up drunk. Maybe he still searches for Maric. Or maybe Aurelius finds out about this drunk that's Maric's son and captures him. Or maybe Alistair's dead and it's Alistairs so-far-unconfirmed half-brother that takes Alistair's place in the storyline. I obviously don't know if my "long answer" is how Bioware thinks of these comics, but it would make sense if they think about them in that way.

I'm also counting on whatever is going on in the comic so far to play an important role in DA3. Marric, Alistair, Aurelius. I think it has a lot of potential of stretching a good deal into the main story line of the game.
Flemeth is behind it all and we need to know why and who she is. Otherwise it's going to be another plot that lead nowhere. Really this franchise has yet to answer anything. The Warden, Morrigan, Flemeth, The Architect, Hawke, Corypheus, Marric, Alistair, Aurelius, The Mages/Templars.....I mean it just goes on and on and no conclusive answer yet.
Something will need to be answered in DA3.

The impression that I've gotten from the possible plot bits that we've seen is that's the point of DA3 - to find out why things are spiraling out of control so quickly.
Origins was the "origin story" for the setting, and set up the background. i.e. there are refugees everywhere because Fereldan just got hit with a Blight. 2 set up the conflict that's tearing the continent apart - i.e. the Mage and Templar war. 3 is probably going to be when we start to pull back the shroud over the whole thing just a little bit and start to see a part of the bigger picture.
Also, Awakenings revealed why the Fereldan Blight took place.

Erm . . . I'd say it's highly debatable whether Sten might be any easier to deal with than any other Qunari. How he acts when he's alone and has only his personal needs to consider and how he acts when he's back inside the Qunari social framework are likely to be very different things. He might even be much HARDER to deal with because he doesn't trust his own judgment and errs on the side of strict literal interpretation of the Qun. Plus, the description info for #3 says that Alistair has to take up arms against an old ally . . . which may mean that Sten is dead by the end of this comic series.
They've recently announced a third comic series, too. So, might want to wait until you've seen that one before you start speculating too much.

How many times does it need to be said? Mr Gaider already said the comics are separate entity to the game. They are NOT canon.
That doesn't mean that certain elements from the comics might not come up in DAIII. There is some speculation that some of the characters from Asunder may make an appearance.
