@ sandellniklas: Just like you said: Orlais doesn't have to be "all french". But I'd like some old-fashion french. Something between the beginning of "Kingdom of heaven" and "Notre-Dame de Paris" (the one with Anthony Quinn, not the one from Dysney ^^). If Thedas is a representation of middle-ages Europe, let's say that this part of french history is not really colorfull (no no no, I don't want french cancan dancers ^^). It can be good if Bioware doesn't use all the clichés, but it can be awfull (for a french who plays in english - like myself) if it's only pompous nobles with over-the-top accents, clothes and cheeses :P

I think Orlais is more Louis XIV than medieval in tone.

But ... it doesn't fit with the rest of Thedas :'(
Please do not make Orlais under the rule of a LouisXIV or .. worse : Marie-Antoinette, it can not be good, please :'( *beg on her knees*

Aside from the accents I have no problem with a game set in Orlais.

Val Royeaux is the center of the most powerful nation on Thedas and the center of the Andrastrian Chantry. How could you not want to go there?!

EDIT: To clarify, I would like to see them use French in the English version.

Same here, ambient dialogue and inserts, all that, like Assassin's Creed 2. There aren't many English language games that use French at all, or well. Would be very cool, done right.

Yes, totally agree. To 'mark' an Orlesian using french titels to adress him/her and use certain french words in conversation would be a very good idea. A lot of french expressions are very well integrated in the english language and can be used because most people understand what is being said.

:crying::crying:Oooooh please it is not just these things that are clichés. Believe me when I see her I feel uncomfortable because they make fun of us poor French really lol. I never play good in English so if it can do some fun ...

Come and you will see that France has the most hand on heart that you think.B)B)

Did not mean to offend MiSS provencale. I for one like the fact that Orlesians are based on the french. Thedas has a lot of different regions and instead of inventing new languages BW has based them on existing ones. Orlais is based on France so would like to see and hear those influences as are also described in the lore.

What I meant in my reply was that a fake french accent is just horrible and to recognize an Orlesian this could be done by adressing him/her by a french title and that an Orlesian could use certain french expressions or words in conversation.

And been to Paris so have seen a bit of your country Image IPB.

Orlais is the most powerful non-qunari nation on Thedas. It is rife with intrigue and should be quite diverse from previous settings. I don't see why this is a bad setting.

My only concern is that the player potentially already has some attachment to Ferelden through DA1, and if there is any tension between the two nations it could artificially colour the players motives and make certain plot elements quite unpopular.

The Bioware writers have not disappointed me yet. The little tidbits I have read about Orlais in Return to Ostagar, Leliana's song, and the book "Asunder" make me want to see/hear/read MORE about Orlais. I am not worried about the accents, if I need an authentic French accent I would just rather find a French language version of DA3 and play the game in the French language. Or maybe for fun I will buy a Spanish language version of DA3 just to see how French accents come across in Spanish. Or maybe my linguistic appetite will demand a "French Smorgasboard" sampling plate and have a little North African French for an appetizer, some Canadian French for the main course, ooh and some European French for dessert. Then I will wash it all down with some Cajun French. And brush my teeth before I go to bed dreaming about masks and fancy shoes and hairdos.

I would like to say big NO to actually anything that comes from Orlais - language (accent I mean), land, characters, quests, etc. Dragon Age franchaise has so rich and beautifull world, it doesn't need this irritating, pretentious fragment of the lore.

I respect that someone wants to dig in in this France-styled part of the lore, but I personally think it sucks. You can easily do showy accent in English, without running to France, which doesn't complement the world of DA AT ALL. It doesn't stick, it doesn't mash, is a puzzle that doesn't really give justice to the rest of the beautifly crafted lore.

So no, I don't wannna Orlais in any form in DA III and in future games in DA world, hope some people agree with me. Orlais is boring and it's like chalk and cheese!

Hmm. A month past the ANNOUNCEMENT of the game and people are already complaining about things as basic as the setting. New record. Why is there no "I am dissapoint" emoticon?

LOL, wat!? They've been talking about Orlais from the beginning. Val Royeux? Empress Celene? Not exactly small potatoes. And the idea that they might try to betray Ferelden again was planted as far back as Origins. I think completely dismissing the value of any Orlesian characters or locations to the story of Thedas just because you don't like the accents or characters (Isolde and Marjoline I will give you, but Leliana!? Come on!) is boring. Boooo! Give me variety! I look forward to hearing more about this place in the context of the rest of the DA world.

I would love for the game to be set in Orlais, and I think it will according to the 'French' allusions given by devs about their 'hypothetical' game in gaming panels. It is an interesting culture, and I am sure Bioware will find a way to tone down the accents so we don't have to interact with 200+ NPCs with Isolde's accent.
