I played ME 3 as a brand new game and had a great gaming experience. Normal mode. Wasn't too easy or hard. Nice balance.
Playing through I realized that there were so many decisions that were dependent on me having played ME2, that I went back and played ME2.
That was a fantastic game.
I started a new me3 game using my me2 import. I had about one bar of paragon which was nice. I was also level 30 tons of skills available at the beginning and a bonus power. Needless to say its been a face roll from the beginning. Now I did this to really experience new dialogue options etc. But I also wanted a gaming experience that was fun. I turned up difficulty to hardcore and it seemed to help.
I was wondering if this is what most people did. When I complete this run through and do a new game + , will the game on just normal Mose scale up to my level or will I have to go hardcore again.
Its amazing the subtle differences from a imported me2 save versus a raw new game. Even in the beginning on the mars mission where liana asks shep how do you do it and shep responds " I have a lot to live for" - in a new game alenko looks over at you. In an imported game Kaiden looks over at you, whereas an imported game even with no romances he does not.
Would love your input.

To import or not to import...that is the question

I pretty much always import. I want the story to be my Shepard, and the default story line is at odds with the way I tend to play. I knew the storyline was planned as trilogy and planned on playing that way from the start.

I agree with you in terms of the story being so important in terms of importing. I wouldnt want it any other way.
But, isnt the game odd that you start at level 30 and just massacre everything on normal? Does everyone thta imports buump up the difficulty level?
I thought that the mobs scale to your level or is that only new game+
If they dont scale on a new game where you import a me2 shep - and you stay with default normal mode - wow then this is the easiest game imaginable.
Am I missing something?

Normally everything should scale. But the shortage of powers in an unimported game probably makes it harder. Scaling just affects the raw numbers, not the tactics you can use. And maybe YOU got a bit better.
I agree that comparing an imported and an unimported game is quite interesting, story-wise. Lots and lots of subtle differences. Did one unimported playthrough to see things my perfectionst imports couldn't show, and really enjoyed it. Made me value ME3 much more.

ME3 is more fulfilling if you import, u feel better with the outcomes of certain major missions, (that is, if you did the "right" things in ME1 and ME2)
In terms of levels, if you want some challenge then play insanity or better yet MP, if you want to learn about powers or explore alternative ways to complete missions then naturally you would go for lower difficulty levels

You could still ratchet up the difficulty further for NG+ if you want to do that.
I like importing the best, although I did play one as a new game in ME3 (I had no saves where Kaidan was alive).

I agree with all of you. Importing is vastly superior. Maybe all of the extra talent points coupled with me being the better player made the difference.
On the whole just a fantastic series and it is really sad that this was the end of shepard. ME 4 would be a dream sequence no pun intended.

I forgot to mention. If you want to start at Level 1 but want all your decisions imported, you can use the ME2 Gibbed editor to set your import save to Level 1 in that game. Then when you import it will still have all the decisions, but you will start at 1.

Mostly start from level 1. Did a play though from a ME1&2 character just to try the different dialogue options, but I mostly play to try out how different builds and that seems to work best starting at level 1.

Importing a level 30 character from ME2 allows you to faceroll through the game, even on Insanity. Best way is to import a character, then Gibbed Save Edit to keep your decisions, but start the game at level 1. This brings you the best of both worlds, your story and a fun challenge.
