now don't burn me at the stake for suggesting the reasonable here...but wouldn't it be better characterization if characters were actually clearly defined as gay or straight rather than these "sexually fluid", take it or leave it types, that will romance anything?

that bad boy or prince charming archetype loses a lot of sheen when you realize he'd just as easily run off with your brother as he would with you...

hey, call me cray...

Again, this is just an invitation to a flame war-- the last time this came up (yesterday?) it descended into madness and had to be removed from the forum.

Suffice to say the answer is this:

1) The companions weren't all bisexual in DA2. Two of them were. You being able to romance whoever you liked is not the same thing, outside of the idea that in some other reality you're aware of the possibility that they might romance someone of a different gender.

2) Yes, not everyone likes subjective sexuality. In the interest of fairness and fun gameplay, this means that such metagaming takes a backseat. This is a conscious decision, and not one that had much impact on how the characters were written. A character's personality does not change according to who they're romancing, and somone who thinks it does is engaging in an imaginative exercise of dubious origin.

3) As I've said previously, an array of set sexualities would be my preference-- provided we had the resources to do additional romances. Considering DA2 had 4 romances, it was decided that was the best way to go.

4) What we're doing for DA3, romance-wise, is yet to be announced. It probably won't be for some time yet.

And with that, I'm shutting it down before it gets ugly.
