now don't burn me at the stake for suggesting the reasonable here...but wouldn't it be better characterization if characters were actually clearly defined as gay or straight rather than these "sexually fluid", take it or leave it types, that will romance anything?

that bad boy or prince charming archetype loses a lot of sheen when you realize he'd just as easily run off with your brother as he would with you...

hey, call me cray...

Oh look, it's this thread again.
Metagaming still makes you bad roleplayer, nothing has changed since the last fifty times this came up. Just let it go.

This will end well.

In all seriousness, though, it's less about realism and more about marketing and appeasing the fans. There are more people who would rather have flexible romance options than there are people bothered/offended by those same options. (I highly suspect, however, that the majority doesn't actually care).

It makes sense in terms of limited game resources. There are a metric **** ton of flaws in video game game characters, that actual people (or even other characters in literature), do not have. You kind of have to roll with the limitations of the mechanics.

I have nothing against a pure homosexual character so i would much prefer to have a character ****** instead of everyone being bi-sex. All bi-sex is silly because streamline every romance. So let's have some characters straight and others gays/lesbians. It will encourage the player to play with different genders to experience all the romances.

It's not so much as character development but more of a "It's cheaper and easier to make them all the same than unique." There is also appealing the fans, but like most games I'm sure the forums only account for a very small percentage of the player base. I'm sure majority doesn't care and wouldn't notice.

While I would prefer a mix of straight, homosexual and bisexual characters, to be honest, every companion being bisexual didn't bother me at all.

It's meant to please everyone's sexual preferences. I just wish people would keep it to themselves.

Again, this is just an invitation to a flame war-- the last time this came up (yesterday?) it descended into madness and had to be removed from the forum.

Suffice to say the answer is this:

1) The companions weren't all bisexual in DA2. Two of them were. You being able to romance whoever you liked is not the same thing, outside of the idea that in some other reality you're aware of the possibility that they might romance someone of a different gender.

2) Yes, not everyone likes subjective sexuality. In the interest of fairness and fun gameplay, this means that such metagaming takes a backseat. This is a conscious decision, and not one that had much impact on how the characters were written. A character's personality does not change according to who they're romancing, and somone who thinks it does is engaging in an imaginative exercise of dubious origin.

3) As I've said previously, an array of set sexualities would be my preference-- provided we had the resources to do additional romances. Considering DA2 had 4 romances, it was decided that was the best way to go.

4) What we're doing for DA3, romance-wise, is yet to be announced. It probably won't be for some time yet.

And with that, I'm shutting it down before it gets ugly.

This is only relevant if you were suggesting anything reasonable.

It's not so much as character development but more of a "It's cheaper and easier to make them all the same than unique." There is also appealing the fans, but like most games I'm sure the forums only account for a very small percentage of the player base. I'm sure majority doesn't care and wouldn't notice.

Heterosexuality does not a unique character make. There's this thing called personality. Rely upon that.
