Not sure how difficult this would be, but I've always wanted to mess with the the default bodies in RPGs. Why couldn't my City of Heroes Super look like Homer Simpson? Why couldn't my Skyrim Orc look like Danny Devito? Why can't my Dragon Age Warden look like The Big Show?

We get to mold faces, change hair, even shape a personality, but the body type is always set.

Now don't get me wrong, not saying DO THIS OR GAME SUCKS! I play the story, so good story trumps even gameplay for me. Just saying it'd be a cool addition to have a player character with a beer gut. I just love the idea of not being Sylvester Stallone in every game.

A character with a beer gut most likely wouldn't be able to do the things that our PC's do though.

I feel like this is one of those "Would be nice if included, not a deal breaker if it's not" type features. I'd like to see it, too, but there's a whole list of things that take higher priority in my book.

I have and likely always will joke about the need for a booby slider and a booty slider, but I don't know if we really need this. Don't get me wrong, if they could manage a Saints Row style character creator, I would pre-order my pre-order.

Wouldn't it make a mess of the cutscenes? Like, literally Going through a chubby protagonist to hug him/her, a small arm not reaching the sword so the sword is flying in the air, etc.

I think there is too much movement in the cutscenes to make a thing like that work properly.

As much as I would love the ability to roll a short, stocky character as well as a tall, slender one (beauty comes in all shapes and sizes), I can only imagine the technical difficulties this would create. Scalable meshes are possible and have appeared in other games, but even the thought of getting the cutscenes to align properly makes my head hurt. I'm cool with using my imagination to create taller/shorter/heavier/thinner characters.

If it happens, it will likely be in the same vein as TOR: Instead of a variety of sliders, you have a few preset body-types to pick from (Average, Slender, Muscular, or Fat, for example)

How about a potato slider

What if strength and dexterity played a part in choosing the physical fitness of the protagonist? Mages are either thin or fat (but likely thin). Rogues are likely lean, toned. Warriors are likely stocky, muscled.

That's if such stats had any weight (pun) upon the appearance.

This, and I would be fine with that. As long as it's not too extreme in any direction.

I would be totally fine with a "Fat" body type.  Espeicallly if it unlocks the "Truffle Shuffle" speical ablity.

Yep. I agree, obviously, with the feasibility issues others have raised (like cut-scenes, clipping, animations etc). I also agree, obviously, with the assertion that this feature not being in the game is not a deal breaker. Just man, I'd sure love it if it was implemented.

Elves don't exist. Neither does magic... well unless we've all been made to not see it. ;)

If we're going to have variable body types, I'd place a higher priority on elves and dwarves than tall or fat

(I know it's not that simple, but still want to make the point)

It's a good point, though. If it came down to let's do body types or race types then I also would pick race types. Ideally I'd get both. But yeah...

I would be ok with this.  As long as there's a curvy. :devil::devil:

Body types a origins!  Body types as special abilities!

It's not impossible. Dragon's Dogma allowed for body customization and it worked well in cut scenes. I don't think Bioware would do this (not yet anyway) as they have already expressed their concerns about the work involved.

However giving phenotypes to choose from (like in NWN) could prevent some technical difficulties and would be much easier to implement.

I'm not sure "obese" should be an option considering the role of our character (always running and fighting) but there should be some body options available that aren't exactly slim/average. I mean even muscle type would be a feature.

If you have different races, you have different body types.

I would like that. Capcom did it with Dragon's Dogma by the way. Pretty neat to see all kind of different types and shapes of people. It felt really natural.

I find it funny how they want the NPC's to look iconic, but there's no obese/tall/deformed/shorty body types.

It's obvious Isabela and Aveline are different body types. I always thought it a bit strange that Wynne's body looked the same as Morrigan's, Leliana's . . .
I prefer to choose races over body type. Although maybe have my character's body type not be the same as every other one of my race/gender (especially my LI's). I wouldn't mind having some set body types to choose from or a couple of choices for basic stats: height, slim, husky, whatever.

I'm fine with different body sizes as long as they remain in proportion to reality. I hate it when I'm forced to see some unrealistic, Gears of War looking meathead running around in an MMO because it allows for body sliders.

It would be cool, but not a huge deal either way.

That much would be great, I think; certainly compared to no option. Even just muscular/not muscular would be an improvement. Body types changing by profession could also be good. I suppose I'm just tired of not-very-strong looking female warriors and oddly-strong-looking male mages.

Absolutely!

eg.

FemHawke was shaped like Kate Beckinsale. No real problem there, of course.

However I would have loved to have a warrior FemHawke shaped like Beth Phoenix.
