The point of the XCOM demo is to give you an idea on how the game plays. The XCOM demo does this just fine. It had me going "CRAP IT'S STILL TWO WEEKS AWAY!"

I've actually avoided the demo so far. I fear my current state of "CRAP IT"S STILL TWO WEEKS AWAY" would just devolve further into something like "HHHHNNNNGH" Image IPB

You can be unhelpful, uneducated and unclear, but its impossible to have a wrong opinion.

In your opinion.

My opinion is that opinions can be wrong or right.

And my favorite part of this is that you can't actually tell me my opinion about opinions is wrong and yours is right without undermining your statement.

I had no problem with the DA2 demo as for me it showed what the game would be like so was very happy Bioware gave us a demo. Without the demo i would have waited until the price came down but after the demo i found that the combat would be fun so got the game.

Well, forms of expression and different (entertainment) products such as games matter little, and are not so potent matters in their range of impact that one could differentiate "good" and "bad" or "right" and "wrong" clearly I think.

Yeah, but the point of any demo/tutorial is to reflect something close to the actual experience which the player will be receiving. Otherwise, what is the point?

They don't give you access to everything, because then they might as well just give you the game. Especially since it's clear to see that all they did for the demo was have the game exit once you get to the "open play" part.

Another game that I absolute love is Jagged Alliance 2, which had a demo which was just one tactical mission. It completely ignores the ultimately REALLY KICKASS campaign mode which turned out to just be an amazingly awesome surprise once I actually played the full game.

I think the angst over the XCOM demo is more "Players wanted more" in that of course they want more. More is always better. I'd love for the demo to be the full game too. That it had players wanting more is probably a good thing.

X-Com looks like it is going to rule.

@Sylvius - There are, for sure, certain people who would love to have a detail-by-detail breakdown of our decisions - motivations, reasons, costs, etc. That's never going to happen, for a variety of reasons. More detail on what sort of game we're making, though, including how we're building the game and why we're making certain overarching decisions? You'll likely hear more of that than you have previously. But rather than showing the decision from inception to completion, we'll be more likely to show you a feature and then say 'okay, this is why we're doing it/what it accomplishes/what we hope it also does'. This only gets you so far back up the chain, of course, but unfortunately I doubt this will ever go quite far enough for your tastes.

I've been coming at this from a similar angle to Sylvius ever since the explosion of "surprised" feedback after DA2 launched. I'm also well aware that full-blown transparency of every possible consideration is not possible (or even desirable).

Your point around "This is what we're doing, this is why we're doing it, what it accomplishes, what we hope it also does" is absolutely dead on the nail of what I was hoping for.

After the hype that was spewed before Mass Effect 3 came out (the "There will not be an A, B, or C ending mostly, decisions like the Rachni and Collector Base being important and other tidbits), most people I have spoken to do not feel they can truly trust Bioware with what they say before games come out. I do hope that with the approach you guys are going with, that it will avoid the kinds of statements that upset so many Mass Effect fans with the 3rd game, and instead we will just get facts instead of hype.

I believe you guys can give us information the right way this time, I am going to give you guys the benefit of the doubt, as you guys actually seem to talk to fans on this forum which is a massive step in the right direction. :) Keep up the good work!

To be fair though, that was all hype in the end (and honestly, the A, B, or C ending thing is kind of out of context in some respects, while the Rachni is a true case of it being hype, even though the mission involving them was great.) and should be taken with a grain of salt. I mean, we can get excited over the creation of a game like that, but usually the hype is never going to live up to the title. Diablo III is a perfect example of that in action.
