Remember what Keeper Marethari said: A death in the fade will render a mage tranquil, not deceased.

Which is fine for her to say, right up until Hawke kills both Anders and Merrill in the Fade and neither of them suffer for it.

That said, I don't think it always happens as Marethari says.

Hawke defeated Anders and Merrill and they vanished, he didn't impale or decapitate them.

Hawke impales Feynriel with the murder knife.

Maric beheaded Aurelian Titus.

My point is that the Fade* will be convenient for whatever the writers need from the plot. ;)

*Edit: And the Real World too, for that matter. *significant look at Oghren and Leliana*

With the date of Alistair's birth being before the Calling, it reminds me of a brief moment in the Calling: On the way to Orzammar, Maric has the party stop and stay behind for a moment while he goes into a small house. When he returns, he says nothing about what he was doing. I have always wondered if that was Maric secretly visiting little Alistair.

Nice to know that I'm not the only one that pondered what it meant for Maric to say all the people he loved were in the Fade.

Eh... it was ok. With the Silent Grove issues, it felt like there was a really cool, lore heavy mystery brewing. And then by the time you get to this last issue where basically all that was revealed was that Maric was just locked in a blood magic life support machine, being held by some mustache twirling EVIL mage who wanted to take all the power of the Fade to RULE THE WORLD! WHHHAHAHAHA!

Meh. Maybe its just a byproduct of the medium but ultimately I felt there wasn't much payoff to what Silent Grove started and hinted at. It was just firmly average and kind of matter of fact in how the story played out. I still don't really understand what the big deal is with Maric or Alistair's blood beyond that it apparently has special magical abilities because of their connection to Calenhad or something?

I dunno. I know the whole blood angle has been there in Dragon Age from the start but it also seems like it could be a massive plot crutch in the future at the rate they're going. Need a quick plot fix? MAGIC BLOOD!

Connection to dragons. And now we finally know why the game is called Dragon Age!

I just read it and who are the guys on page 9?

Titus speaks to some yellow-eyed advisor and tells him to find Alistair and the gang, and then the advisor runs off to some hooded group of guys that just checks with him if everything is going according to plan. What plan?

The hooded figures are, of course, Alistair&Co and I don't believe they are checking with the advisor. They heard what Titus said and are mocking him over how his plan is falling into shambles.

Well it seems like Titus had a bunch of cultists with him , probably other muhahaha we're eveil mages from Tevinter.
The hooded figures are Alistair and co in disguise.

And the plan , I think was to reshape reality throught the fade using the blood of old dragons as batteries.

I have the first two volumes in comic form. I would prefer hardcover, does anybody know if I can still get them somewhere or if Bioware/Dark Horse will be releasing a compiled version?

FWIW I saw some hardcover versions of the comics at PAX Australia only today. I guess they're still around?

The hardcover versions of The Silent Grove and Those Who Speak can be bought all over - I got my copies from a bookstore. The hardcover version of Until We Sleep isn't out yet - I think my online bookseller says it's coming out early September.

I want to make one comment about Calenhad and apologize in advance if somebody beat me to it. I can't remember if I've ready every comment in this thread or not.

Based on current events we can take it as true that dragonblood runs through the Theirin bloodline. That doesn't mean that the Qunari version of history is strictly accurate, just as the more pure and noble Fereldan version of history is strictly accurate. IMO the truth is somewhere in between. For all we know there is something in the bloodline going back long before Calenhad which was merely awakened by drinking the dragon blood. Just a thought.

. . . .

DAO did NOT make justice to Loghain, he went from noble man and strategic genius to bushy eyed insane villain and - cruelty of cruelties - a guy who completely misjudges the tactical / strategic threat Blight / Archdemons and Wardens are. Didn't seem at all like the Stolen Throne guy.

I have to disagree. Loghain was grim, smart and determined from the very beginning. You certainly saw him being ruthless and singleminded (to the point of blindness) more than once. He very carefully pledged himself to Ferelden, not Maric. Look at the way he deliberately manipulated Maric into killing Katriel, the woman he loved. Rowan looked at him with different eyes after that. It's not just the personal he pushes to the back of his mind but people.
Edit:  This is the last time I visit this thread until I read the 3rd volume myself, LOL. I'm sure I'll be back.
