Isn't that option already available? Because when ever I press the action button Hawke draws his weapon/s.

There is no action button on the PC version.

If I remember correctly, on default bindings, "R" serves this purpose. I might be wrong, though, it's been a while since I played.

Right, 'R' is the closest to an equivalent of the action button, but it doesn't, normally, make you unsheathe/draw your weapon. There's been more than a few instances where pressing 'R' has had that effect, but if it was meant to do it, it certainly does not do it reliably.

Okay.  I remember that working on the demo, but on the demo pressing R also triggered an immediate attack, and that was fixed in the actual game.

I support the ability to draw my weapon outside of combat. If I'm entering an area where I'm anticipating a threat, why wouldn't I have my weapon ready beforehand?

I agree with the OP.

The way I play, being able to attack the enemy before they detect my party is important.

I really missed in DA2 being able to send my stealthed rogue as scout, have him/her fire an arrow to the nearest enemy, then have my rogue run for his/her life back to where the rest of my party is and ambush the poor sods that dared to follow a "fleeing enemy" leaving behind  the security of their own party.

How I hated DA2 for not allowing me to do this :pinched:

Edit: Actually as Hadea said, there is no real reason to have our weapons sheathed unless we are in a "safe" area ( meaning a city/an inn/your house/...).
I guess the reason why they are sheathed is to avoid clipping issues on non-combat animations... but the running animation, for example, is already different in combat and outside of combat. They would have to use the runing-while-combat instead of the other... and just sheath weapons during cinematics...

For a moment I thought they would have an excuse not to do it...

Personally bringing back Arcane Warrior, or more playstyle flexibility within each class in general, is a far bigger issue for me than something like "can we draw our weapons outside of combat." Sure it would be nice, I suppose. But class flexibility would be like a Tier 9 issue, whereas I'd rank something like weapon drawing outside of combat as a Tier 2 at the most, probably Tier 1.

Examples:
Tier 1: We need a romanceable female Qunari.
Tier 9: No more recycled environments.

Tier 1: Wrap up obscure subplot thread A
Tier 9: More follower customization.

But I suppose the forums need to inevitably explore every nook and cranny of nitpick canyon during the development/prelaunch period, may as well try to stop the sun from rising.  I know the dance all too well.  Have at it.

They did it before. We could draw our weapons and put them away in NWN.

I agree it would be nice. As usual there are other things to consider. If in a 'non combat' area you suddenly have to worry about clipping, collisions, level design etc. If you are wandering around with a weapon drawn your characters box that takes up space is much larger. It's never as simple as it may seem.

Here ya go. You don't need a game to have one. Just Microsoft Paint.

I don't care one way or another. I see no benefit from implementing this, but also no real detriment as the animation is already in place. I did enjoy igniting my lightsaber and spinning it about in KotOR, but that is because it was a lightsaber. The vibroblade was far less cool. So, whatever.

Why is it green?  Key limes are yellow.

There shouldn't be combat and non-combat areas.  Combat should be able to happen anywhere.  Fights move.

Combat should be initiated by the player, rather than only starting because enemies dropped on top of us or because the player enters enemy sight lines.

For example, imagine not being able to fire an arrow at an enemy in Skyrim until they saw you and started charging at you.

That would suck.

Pro-tip: Drawing your weapons outside of combat in DA:O and DA2 makes you move at a consistent speed, so you don't slow down when you run up inclines or stairs.

Oh yes there is. Keymap target closest enemy and attack to the F key. I found out quite by accident, that key is also the default loot button. Bioware did a ****** poor job of showing all of the default keys in the menu. It works for attacking, looting, and opening chests. Every now and then i press it, and i draw my weapons.
