I think it was the difference in the American vs. Welsh and Irish accents (since Elvish is a different language, they wanted to sound more "exotic" and lighter, flowier, and frankly, prettier) than American English. Though they could have accomplished this by getting some Americans who speak other languages with "lighter" tones (think the opposite of languages like Russian and Arabic)

The first one makes me cringe personally, the second one sounds more Tolkien-inspired Elvish. But that's my opinion.
