I probably didn't give the character enough of a chance, but I found him incredibly boring. Now on my playthroughs I just leave him locked up in Lothering.
Ha, he's my favourite companion. And I never had a soft spot for "big stoic badass" type characters (or the warrior class). But I happened to find him well written, well voiced, with a deep personality and a cool story. Interesting contract between him being all about control and moral code and his murdering a whole family out of rage. Lets himself be captured and basically lets himself starve and die, yet what keeps him alive is obviously not just his uber Kossith constitution but also his will to be something better. A mix of abandon and dignity, selflessness and pride, cold reason and insanity. Overall, a very human, tragic character. With some funny lines too (and great finishers in boss fights !).
@Maria Caliban Is it really confirmed he becomes Arishok ? It does look like the Arishok's armour he's wearing there... Not sure how I feel about this. I liked the idea of Sten disappearing into the Qunari "mass", back to being a nameless, model Qunarihi, even though deep inside his time with the hero of Ferelden (if befriended) must have changed him a little bit.

Hmmm silly. And here I thought that I killed Sten multiple times all over in DA2
.
As Sten mentions it himself, Sten is not Sten's name but Sten's title. If he were indeed to become Arishok, he would likely not be referred to as Sten anymore but as Arishok (just like the Arishok in Dragon Age II gets called Arishok and not whatever his name is). The Stens you kill in Dragon Age 2 are just other Qunari with the same rank as Sten from Origins.
