It looks like in the preview to the new comic, that Sten/Arishok is holding Asala in his hand, no? Could just be another sword I suppose. Still, he looks pretty awesome

HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP........

Sten... considers Alistair his kadan!!

Eh? I thought he told the Arishok that only the Warden was worthy enough

He never got to give his report to the Arishok remember. The Arishok got shipwreaked while chasing Isabela way before Sten ever got home to make the report.

Ah... yes. Rumors and hearsay. I forgot.

Yes. But perhaps as a new kind of Arishok, one who is not obsessed with converting other people? Perhaps an Arishok that wants to lend a hand to Thedas once more in their hour of need? (Or is converting other people ''a demand'' of the Qun?)

Sten being the Arishok is very interesting, ahhh why can't Gaider just drop the mage/Templar thing and focus on the Qunari?

Because I think the Qunari/Tevinter will be DA4 :) I am almost very sure about this

I'm almost dead certain myself as well, probably involving heavy intrigues in Tervinter.

@Androme: I've mentioned that before too - it would make a great deal of sense.

@MrHouse: I think it's a natural progression of the story. Sadly - DA 2 probably should have dealt with and concluded the mage/templar war instead of just the one act that lead to it.

Though - it's likely true that several things that occur in DA 2 will now be used to set up DA 4.  Thereby giving it just a little more relevance.

The Warden isn't the only one within DA:O that he refers to as Kadan; he also calls Shale Kadan.  Besides, it isn't entirely out of the picture for Sten to have gained a new respect and admiration for particular people after they just defeated the Blight together.  After the death of the Archdemon, Sten doesn't even get the chance to talk to anyone else besides the Warden so assuming that the only one he thinks of as Kadan is the Warden only because its what you heard within the confines the game is a bit presumptuous.

Im sure im in the minority, but the qunari just arent that interesting to me. never cared for sten(although i always freed him and went on his personal quest). Hes just too not my cup of tea. The only way im interested in hearing more about the qunari is if its in relation to Tevinter destroying them.

Sten as the new Arishok is great character development. I wanted to see Sten before I knew this, now I must see him. I really need to start reading those comics.

Oh hell yes.

The Aarishok was one of my favorite characters in DA2, Sten was one of my favorites in DAO. This, this is how things should progress!

I wonder if he will have horns if he shows up in DA3. Not sure if I would enjoy seeing Sten with horns. Too big a change.

He won't. See the image pic on the first page or page 3. No horns. The only change he's gone through is growing his hair out, growing a badass goatee, and changing his duds.

I know people hate it, but of all the characters in the DA franchise Sten is one of the two (the other being Sigrun) who I would welcome the writers explaining away their potential deaths so they could return in large roles. >.>

You could never kill Sten.

Godwood wrote...

Well that's completely out of character.

Not really. At least, not yet. While in Origins the only people he called kadan were The Warden and Shale -- and implied to apply to Dog -- I imagine that having traveled with Alistair for a year made him view him as one of his brothers -- the meaning of kadan -- or that after the fight with the Archdemon he considered a few more people as being worthy of the title kadan.

It's not out of character. In fact... he also calls him a fool immediately afterwards.

So... very Sten-ish.

Perhaps it has to do with their original fighting style. They came over on ships with cannons and gunpowder. Their culture seems to be a naval one(as they were able to transfer a massive population on boats), and people rarely if ever wear armor on board ships in "realistic" fantasy.

When they invaded centuries ago by using their dreadnoughts, they were adorned in armor.

I've been wondering about that for a long time.  In the Destruction of Thedas (I think that is the entry) codex portion it describes them in shiny metal armor.

The people we saw in DA2 were heavily influenced by mesoamerican cutures and as far as I know none of those cultures wore metal armor.  I'm actually having a hard time even imagining what plate armor from those cultures would even look like.

Credit anything regarding armor vs not armor to dramatic effect then. If they're barmy enough to go sailing while wearing full plate, they're barmy enough to not wear armor in other circumstances. Its not like we don't have real life examples of people going into battle backwards and naked to prove their courage.

Apparently, Sten is the new Arishok. Any chance he might appear in the new game? I assume the Qunari won't be sitting idle while Thedas engages in a civil war.

In fact, that seems like an excellent time for the Qunari to seize land.

Sten was awesome, i seriously hope he returns in DA3 and has a major role in the game

Sten is the best. Well, second best for me (Behind Loghain). If he actually shows up, it must be done properly and not for the sake of a cameo.

Can't BELIEVE nobody's used that yet. XD

Anyway I don't think we'll see Sten in this one. Well... maybe. Depends on whether the Qunari are gonna play a big(ish) role or not I suppose.

Some people think he will show up at the end launching a Qunari invasion of Tevinter which leads into DA4.

Kadan isn't just some loose term one uses for their aquaintances. It's for people one values highly, people whom you love.

Not once did Sten show any sort of respect or friendship towards Alistair nor was Alistair ever worthy of it. I'm guessing whoever wrote that was just using Sten sounding dialogue without putting any particular thought behind it.

Mesoamerican cultures didn't have metal armour (or weapons) because they didn't have the means to construct anything out of metal (instead they used wood and obsidian to make things like the Macuahuitl)

Qunari however, evidently do have access to metal therefore it doesn't make much sense they wouldn't utilize it for their armour.

True, that is what it means But we don't know if Sten changed his views on Alistair after the Archdemon was killed.

There is one instance where he shows respect to Alistair. It's when Alistair stands up to him after Sten said "Draw your sword".

The dialogue is something I can't recall clearly, but I do know he respected Alistair for him telling Sten to basically shove off.

And Sten approves of being stood up to. So I'd say that's a moment that shows he's beginning to respect Alistair. It's not much, I'll say that much. But to say he doesn't respect Alistair at all wouldn't be accurate.

He does, but that's not what's being discussed between me and Godwood, assuming your post is directed at me or him. Sten calls Alistair kadan in Those Who Speak, a term he's only explicitly said towards the Warden and Shale, though it's implied that he views Dog the same way.

Am I the only one bothered that everyone keeps calling him "Sten"? That's not his name, that was his rank. And his new rank is Arishok.

So ,yes, I believe in a future game (DA3 or 4) we'll see the Arishok again.
