Whenever i get bored enough to come back to these forums,
I can only roll my eyes as i read one forum thread after the other.

Most of the threads barely consider any perspective other then their own, and as a result there is this illusionary consensus that certain opinnions are facts. Particularly the one regarding the Catalyst logic not making any sence.

I have long ago stopped arguing about the endings in such threads, but most places of ME discourse are filled with dicussions about the topic at hand.

Personally part of me is afraid Bioware may actually listen to this mob and take steps backwards, in the kind of games they deliver.
I would be lying if i said i was never dissapointed with Bioware's games. But despite certain failures in execution and
rather than delivering yet another Lord of the rings or Star wars esqe story, they are choosing to tell a differnt kind of story in their games and i can appriciate that.

So what do the rest of you feel about the continuing negativity ?

Do you think its a sign that Bioware may be better off giving us a more tradational Hero's Journey, or should the rest of us (Clearly the minortiy on these forums atleast) Be more vocal or supportive of Bioware  in the face of all this negativity.

The fact they made a AAA title with such an unmarketable ending should serve as a testament to how important checking work and feedback is.

I quite simply don't care anymore. People need to move on now, nothing is going to change. If you can't tolerate it now, you most likely never will.

Well, to be fair, if people are still complaining that means: a) they have no desire to move on; B) the game is bad enough to be bashed for 6 months. And I’d rather BW gives us an optional “traditional Hero ending” because it will not really going to displease pro-enders, and may actually make things better with anti-ender. In other case people may just move on from BioWare, rather than from ME only.

It's bashing for bashings sake. At this point, unless its new to you, I think you're better off cutting ur loses and finding something positive to obsess over.

I'm immune but I do not hold whiners in high regard. Yes, there is some good critique, but most of it is born out of ignorance and arrogance. And it is too emotion-driven.

I understand why some people didn't like it. What I don't understand is how this is at all new to them.

Having watched many TV series, many film series, and many novels, I can tell you that the ending screws up more often than not. I have read countless 7+ book series only to be given a crap ending.

But, you don't judge the entire adventure solely by its ending. That's madness.

The general consensus in the Miranda thread is that she'd find him first. She was actually thinking about breaking in to see him when he was locked up. She really wanted to see him. That dialogue is downright hilarious because she's changed so much.

She won't wait again.

That would definitely fit Miranda's character, I wonder how she would find him and what kind of state she would find him in... But thats getting pretty far offtopic.

I would like for separate forums to exist. One set for negative threads, one for positive threads.

I hate it. It's annoying. And stupid.

But it begs the question why I'm still here, of course.

The answer is: I haven't found a hobby to replace ME as the thing that consumes my freetime.

So, here we are. Hopefully I can find it soon.

Who gets to choose what determines a positive thread from a negative one? JC.

Another "At least it's different" statement, as if being different is better than being any good. Throw in some bashing of those not easily fobbed off with nonsense and we've got a typical pro-ender. Look, a lot of people don't like it for very good reasons they've often explained very rationally. Deal with it.

All i can say is that there are some people out there that can't seperate reality from work of fiction so when reality comes knocking they react badly.
Why can't people just be excited for things instead of always assuming the worst?
We are so privileged in our lives that we get to play video games made by passionate and creative people, yet that is not enough for some, they have to be so negative, it's depressing really.
They claim to be fans of Mass Effect yet it seems like they can't wait until it's dead.
I just want people who claim to be fans of Mass Effect to be excited and say "hey wouldn't it be cool if this or that happened" instead harrasing Bioware employee's, having pointless arguments
and creating a bad environment here on the bsn forums.
Has it always been this negative here on bsn or has there ever been a better time?

A few thoughts on some specifics:

The pre-EC ending was poorly executed and had two big problems for me.
1. Continuity errors/holes. How did my squad get back on the Normandy? Why is Joker running?
2. The destruction of the mass relays. The Mass Effect Universe is dependent on them and destroying them is ripping that universe apart.
These were both fixed in the EC.

It seems most people's complaints land in a few categories:
The Catalyst's thinking doesn't make any sense.
It's standard sci-fi AI device. The Catalyst doesn't value individual life, but he does value civilizations. He saves the civilizations at the cost of individual lives. His thinking is sound, but his values are not.

A conventional victory should be possible.
For me, these people mostly just want a hero's ending. I understand it. But I respect that Bioware didn't do it in favor of something else.

My favorite LI/other character didn't get what they deserved.
I understand this one. I like Tali and Liara, so it's not really a big deal for me. I think they should have had a better ending in this regard. Have them all physically show up at the forward operating base at Priority Earth.

Overall, I am tired of the negativity. I mostly stick to the multiplayer forums as a result.

When the ending completely obviates everything decent about much of the rest of the series, I believe it's valid, yes.

The work put into actually making the game deserves respect. The ending conception itself deserves none at all.

What we're seeing is a backlash from people who are angry that someone did exactly that - "Hey, wouldn't this be cool?" without putting a second's thought behind it and what the consequences would be. The negativity is a sign of a large collection of intelligent, thinking people who aren't fobbed off easily (admittedly mingled in with a few loons who flew completely off the handle). It's what happens when you attract an audience who enjoy putting thought into much more than simply the surface, and appreciate effort and attention to detail. Mix in letting them down at a crucial stage of a trilogy and it would be depressing if there wasn't a good deal of negativity.
