IF Cullen is a companion, is there a way to NOT have him?

I know there is a large fan base for Cullen.  I, however, am not one of them.  I did not like him in Origins, I did not like him in DA2 and I sure do not want to be saddled with him as I was with Anders in DA3.

Now my thinking on companions is this: I want the ability to CHOOSE who I am friends with and who I travel with.  I do not mind if a random roll determines if I can have a character as a companion or even as a romance (I prefer that actually).  But to be forced to have a certain person as a companion does not sit well with me.

In DA2 I would (and tried hard not to) have anything to do with an abomination, let alone a radical one.  Yet the game forced this relationship upon me.  You HAD to do an anders quest in part 1 and part 2 to advance the game.  In the cutscenes he is mentioned as one of your companions, etc.  NOT true for me.

Cullen I did not like in Origins and was guilty of being in the cutscene where the Hawke I was playing was taken from me and replaced with a spineless wimp as he took Bethany away.  That I will never forgive.

Now I am SURE Cullen will be well written.  I am also sure that he will be voice acted wonderfully, etc.  The issue is - I do not like him.   That is credit to the design team in a way.  They made me feel something toward him.  Many love him, I do not.

So i am asking, will I be able to Zevran him?  Or will he be another Anders?

I demand every conversation on the dialogue wheel to have the option "kill everybody in sight"

you don't have to use anders at all in dragon age 2 also you can ask him to leave

i am sure who ever is in the new game will be able to left behind and why do you have to kill them

Some party members will probably be completely optional, like Isabela and Fenris, while others will be required for at least one mission, like Aveline, Anders, Varric, or Merrill.

Does the idea that you might have to have a character in your party for one mission really bother you that much? And why not give everybody a chance, since the characters may surprise you, or change significantly from what you know from the last two games?

Yeah in Act II near the end *after* completing his stupid companion mission.

I hope Cullen is like Alistair and Varric in that you don't even get a choice in removing him from the party (excluding Alistair's execution/exile here). I also hope that Cullen has become a very, very, very extreme religious zealot who constantly preaches about The Maker and has a new found hatred against mages and even kills several harmless mage characters during mid-conversation while you're actually talking to them and the kills are random each time.

That'll make up for us pro-templars having to put up with whiny ass Anders. Also I hope Cullen breaks into The Inquisitor's house (like Anders did to Hawke) and leaves verses of The Chant of Light and notes about his hatred for mages laying around the place. If the party camp is back then I hope The Inquisitor's tent is filled with verses from the Chant of Light and notes about Cullen's hatred for mages and there's *nothing* you can do to remove them.

Hell, I hope Bioware makes these notes the first thing you see when you start DA3 up (they're the theme in the start-menu).

There are 2 quests you had to do in order to progress the game (1 in act 1 and 1 in act 2).  I seem to remember you being able to NOT do his quests in Act 3 (I do not think I ever did get him the bomb ingredients).  Now I admit that you lose a lot of understaning on how tragic his story really is by NOT having him around, but he is still refered to as your companion, and I do not remember ever being able to tell him to shove off.  He always showed up as a companion and is refered to as a friend.

Do note, i am NOT asking for anything to be cut from the game, etc.  I just would like to NOT have Cullen in my group, that is all.  No mention that he and I were pals, no quests of his I need to do, etc.  Now give me a new templar who does NOT have the baggage that Cullen has and I would be fine.  I just do not like the character and am hearing more and more that he is a companion.  I simply am asking if he is a plot armor companion like Alistair or is he a 'Zevran' level companion who you can tell no, kill, etc. and never be bothered with again.

I'm pretty sure you can tell him to leave after the whole Ella debacle in Act, though I've never done that.

And Anders is hardly the only plot important companion we couldn't get rid off until the end. I remember a certain Grey Warden from Origins... I've fared perfectly well by having my character decide he's annoying and then never taking him with me on missions.

It's my hope that DA3 has companions that aren't pinned to the story arc, though I do think Cullen would offer much to the rumored story line. It's only fair that all players can have who they like around and not have who they don't. The only way to do this is have any plot centric characters be brand new companions or make none of the characters plot centric at all.

Or make them all plot-centric in some way.

In what way? For asking for an extreme templar companion in the appropriate thread regarding a templar? And my brain is "broken?" Don't take things too seriously on a gaming forum deer...

Actually no.  I simply do not like Cullen at all.

Now give me a templar who actually embodies what it means to be a templar like Evangeline in Asunder and I would be SUPER happy to have them in my party, etc.

Really? I think Id actually prefer if they all were. It was tedius how -certain- companions stayed with you for no good reason at all.  I was always like "Why are you here again?" and left them behind at all times cause they did nothing for the plot and were a waste of space.

That works! :D Then everyone gets their chance to shine!  I might have to deal with someone I don't like to reach the end of the game but if I get what I want as well, I wouldn't be able to complain. I'll deal with it. ^_^
