Any chance we'll be able to change our companions armor this time around? I know the intent last time was to make the have iconic looks but honestly it felt more like the game was incomplete and it had been rushed out lacking an important feature.

(Don't get me wrong I loved da2 but going from changeable companion armor to unchangeable just makes it feel like the games are going backwards)

I think this blog post covers what they're attempting to do with companion armor this time around.  Really hoping it works out.  Also secretly hoping we can dye things.

Oh wow, that sounds much better than the DA2 policy. Although I admit...I still prefered the origins method. But this is much improved from the last game

I think the new armor system will be amazing, if Bw pulls it off.

That's basically the ideal. You can put leather armor on Isabela and Aveline but they shouldn't look exactly the same.

I haven't watched the videos, but I'd like to throw in, that *if* we're part of the inquisition, I'd love to have the possibility to have my companions wear uniforms - preferably with ingame consequences, due to npcs acknowledging affiliation.

I'd say this basically is the Origins method.  In DAO, you could equip any armour on anyone, and it looked different on different characters (depending on race and gender).  In the method described here, you can equip any armour on anyone, and it looks different on different characters (depending on that character's design).

Only that final parenthetical is different.  I think the new proposal is terrific.  It isn't without pitfalls (Mike's phrasing in the video suggests they're considering limiting armour use by class - a terrible idea), but it has the potential to be just about perfect.
