Man these ME1 romances are shot to Hell.

I was romancing Ashley. Talked to her a lot and always selected Paragon responses. Second hub mission I picked up Liara and started hitting on her too, thinking I'd get the "It's her or me" confrontation you're supposed to get if you follow two romance paths.

But I never got the scene. Instead, the Normandy's just been locked down after doing all 4 hub missions, and it was Liara who comforted me - meaning she's my 'locked in' romance. I didn't actually mean to switch romances, just to get the confrontation scene.

Anyone know where I might have gone wrong?

So you hit on Liara...and now you're surprised that she wants to romance you?

I thought only girls did that.

Joking aside...what did you say to Liara when she mentioned that she thought there was something already between you and Ashley?

I selected the paragon (top left) response. It was paraphrased as "Ash is special" though I can't exactly remember what Shep actually came out with.

Did you have the talk with Liara where she tells you she's a virgin? That conversation will permanently lock you in with Liara, overriding any romance you already had with Ashley.
