Who is not going to buy this unless it gets excellent user reviews?

I've read so much that Bioware have had their last chance with their last two games and the way they treat the fanbase, and yet everyone on this board is acting like none of that happened.

DA2 kind of put me off game pre-orders and I haven't placed one since. Did not touch DA2 DLC.

We forget early reactions from BW (which is good tbh) but some of that left such a bad taste in the mouth that when I saw ME3 available I did not buy it automatically - I just remembered us being told that BioWare does not want, or respect, or even care about customer loyalty and customer investment in a franchise. It is a burden to them. So I just left it tbh. Didn't wanna be a nuisance.

So DA2 cost BioWare an auto-buy of ME3, too.

I have not sworn off their games - bottom line is that I'll buy on merit. I *hope* to be able to buy on merit - it would please me greatly to see another masterpiece and see BW back on form.

For that reason it needs to be a damn sight better than DA2 because if not buying for the label, DA2 wasn't half the game Dungeons of Dredmor was.

I could care less about reviews. All that matters to me is whether I like it or not. The only way I'm going to find out is by playing it myself.

I'm not going to pre-order but I'm going to "track" this game's development.

I have repeatedly said I am not pre-ordering the game, but will pick it up later if I like what I see, this hasnt changed.

Not everyone was unhappy with the past games, and a lot of people where only upset with parts of it and are hopeful they will fix the things they didn't like.  With the announcment of the new game in developement its only natural for those that where happy with the game and hopeful for improvements will get excited and make a lot of posts.

The only thing that would be a sure fire pre-order for me is if I was importing my warden forward. Since I have been told that I wouldn't be then I'll wait. The return of Morrigan is about the biggest thing that could make me pre-order, we'll just have to see. If she has a short cameo or part like Flemeth than, no. Sixty dollars is a lot of money, and I wouldn't have wanted to spend a full sixty on DA2.

I was disappointed by DA2, and even more so by ME3 both of which I pre-ordered after enjoying previous titles. As a result, I did not buy any of the follow-up DLC for these games which I guess is 'putting my money where my mouth is'.

So now I will not pre-order any more BioWare games. Instead I will evaluate whether or not future games are worth purchasing and playing based on reviews by independent players (i.e. not those of advertisement-dependent websites).

That said, I am interested in these worlds, and I want to play more games in these settings. But not games like DA2 and ME3.

I'm going to buy it! The first time I played DA2 I was disapointed because it was not like the first. It grew on me and I think it did some things better. I have replayed it many times. As for ME... That ending shattered my soul and hurt my brain! But at least Bioware attempted to fix it. Still a good game overall.

Bioware has its own kind of game centered around building a character up through combat, dialogue, drama, humor, and romance. No other developer does what they do. I enjoy the formula and think its always been worth-while investments.

Well, Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 were let-downs for some of the more hardcore fans (people with a large emotional attachment to their characters). They were more streamlined, action-packed and overall more Michael Bay-ish then their predecessors.

However, the main difference (at least for me) is the fact that Dragon Age is, I feel, more set up as an ongoing experiment about creatin the perfect western-style, Baldurs Gate-based RPG. DA:O had it's good and bad, DA:2 had it's good and bad points. Overall though, the story is solid and the critisicm is largely based on gameplay-technic choices made by the development team, where ME3 was, in term of gameplay, fantastic. Every addition to the gameplay was solid (weapon customisation for example) but the story was not.

I feel the team of DA3 now has a clear view, based on the fan reaction on DA:O and DA:2 how they can get a step closer to the 'perfect' RPG.

I will watch previews and reviews closelely, and not the Gamespot and IGn ones, to see if it's solid. ME3 has proves mainstream sites are not (completely) honest in their reviews. But I have faith the team knows what needs to be done. Hell, they even opened a convention with it: They made a sarcastic comment about repetative environments.

I'll wait until I hear more, but if I like what I hear and MP is out of the question I'll gladly preorder, even the CE if available.

DA2, unlike ME3, didn't shatter my expectations and I would like to support the DA team more, but MP is where I draw the line.

Let's Plays (I'm not sure if you know what they are or not) allow you to make your own mind up about the game. Trailers can be honest, but then, they aren't as good for the marketing scheme. And I prefer awesome trailers... they're really cool to watch. To this day I haven't touched SWTOR but I've seen their trailers multiple times.

No pre-order this time. If gameplay videos and reasonable player reviews convince me, I'm gonna buy it.

I'll be waiting for the price to drop just to balance off being burned on DA2 and ME3. Until then I'll be playing my friend's account.

I feel the same.

For me DA2 was such a negative experience (in regards to gaming, not the big picture) that I haven't touched a Bioware product since. It's not out of any sort of boycott, I just have little faith in them as a company and have lost interest.

I'm still taking an interest in DA3 and hanging around on here, so while I would never pre-order, a buy down the line isn't totally out of the question, though, I haven't seen much to suggest we aren't getting DA 2.5, if anything, the total opposite.

I'll be happy if my fears are unjustified though.

I will be preordering. I'm sure the game will make new mistakes, since no game is perfect. However, I seriously doubt DA3 will make the specific mistakes of recycling dungeons and having a severe lack of follower customization. These are universal criticisms of DA2 and they will be addressed. Every game Bioware has ever made has addressed the criticisms of its predecessor in some way (e.g. Everyone hated the simplified power system in ME2 and overall lack of build customization, so in ME3 they gave us a really in depth power system that still made sense for a 3rd person shooter).

The only way I would not preorder a Bioware game is if I saw them commit a critical mistake two games in a row. That could be indicative of a very upsetting pattern.

While I will not be preordering or buying it on the first day, I will rent it and play it- THEN decide if I want to buy it. DA2 kinda made me nervous about buying first day...then ME3 has me shuddering. So, Renting it is.

I won't be fooled into preordering a Bioware game ever again, but I might buy it if they addressed most of the countless issues I had with DA2.

Still, I just spent frickin' 250$ on funding Project Eternity so won't buy a lot of games in the coming few years.

I love the world.... and I'm an item****.....
So I will be preordering... and trying my best to get all the goodies with only one copy of the game.

EDIT: Also... Don't pull any more of the "fan reward pack" shenanigans. I live on the other side of the country... and have COLLEGE... which is way more important than traveling across the country for a DLC thing. If you're gonna release those kinds of things at physical events, by all means. But please rerelease them later for everyone who has more important commitments than a game.

Recycling dungeons and lack of customization are only two of the many problems that I had with DA2.  If that is all they correct for DA3, I'll probably won't even be buying it and be done with the series completely.

Besides, as for customization, you'll only get two different iconic outfits to choose from with your companions, just like ME2 & 3.  Plus, I'm pretty sure it was stated, that they plan on sticking with the star system accessories.

Where did you read that? We have no confirmation about how customization will work. The only think we know is what the developers would like to do, as they shown the concepts at PAX. And if they're going to make that concept real, the companions will have access to multiple armours or robes (though restricted by the class).
