I can't say advertising what has been a common RPG convention (choosing race, sex, class) for the past some-odd years would really rustle my jimmies personally.
Because you've played Dragon Age games and RPGs before.
That isn't the case for everyone, and the game wouldn't just be marketed to people who've played RPGs in the past.
I think maybe some people aren't getting why we care about trailers. Thye aren't for people like me who already know about the game. They are for potential new players, and players love feeling included, and feeling in control. Showing an inclusive cast for PCs (however they achieve it, and there were good ideas on here....Bioware?) would provide that link. Does it possibly seem shallow that I would be gravitated towards a game where there is a cool female protag? Maybe.
Trailers are how I find out about new games, and I do watch the DA ones when they are released anyway
Seeing women handling their own instead of "new Lara Croft syndrome" really makes me feel a game is worth my while and that I won't roll my eyes or feel covered in chauvinistic grime when watching it.
Think of being a woman and watching Cassandra kick ass (or the Sacred Ashes trailers) vs. Hitman: Absolution. That is the best way I can explain why inclusivity in advertising matters.
